Testing Oxygen / Lamda Sensor in Vagcom

Featured Replies

I keep getting a recurring error code & lumpy idling:

16514 - Oxygen (Lambda) sensor B1 S1: Malfunction in circuit

Before I buy a replacement sensor & attempt fitting, any ideas if I can do some further testing in Vagcom to double check its a duff Lambda?

Thanks!

I had this fault come up on a bora 1.8t at work last week, turned out it had a burst breather pipe under the inlet manifold.

I've seen this quoted a few times now. I have similar lambda problems and wonder if a dodgy pipe is to blame - where do I look on 04 vrs?

But perhaps it is the sensor? I know there are two lambda sensors PRE (engine side?) and POST (at rear?) the Cat. I'm just wondering which the following errors refers to?

17511 - Oxygen Lambda sensor

Heating: B1 S1

Performance too low

P1103

16519 - Oxygen Lambda sensor

B1 S1: Heating Circuit

malfunction - P0135

My mate at work has serviced the car: changed all the filters recently, changed oil and plugs. It seems to be running better now (having cut out before). Earlier posts had suggested dodgy coil packs and/or Maf, faulty temp sensor. His view is to try and work through all the possibilities. he found one of the spark plugs looking quite unhealthy but I wa suprised to hear that it could bring the car to a halt?!

Thanks in advance to anyone offering advice/wisdom btw.

What did the plug look like? Signs of overfuelling (black deposits) or underfuelling (clean white plug)?

Do a search on here for breather pipes to see which ones to check. Usually though if one of those is badly split and its running lean then the fault code will be something like 17536 "system too lean"

to follow up on my original post - I had the lambda sensor changed just before Xmas - but now my car is throwing the same error & back to being rough - I'm going to check the breather under the manifold on the weekend (the rest of my breather system is replaced by a CC install)

When you're checking hose is any chance you could take a quick photo of where it is - I'm not too sure which one it is? Thanks.
