nice!

It's a VW Vento with a Fabia grille. This car is just for India.

Cool, she's driving it from the back seat!

It's a nice looking car

so the vw vento is as wide as a fabia..

Awful fabia with a boot absolutely awful that's not for the uk market

Remember this isn't the VW Vento (MK3 Golf saloon) that we had here.

So its a Saloon Fabia, which is... ummm. An Octavia?

How confusing by VW.. The Vento in the UK started in the Mk1 as the Jetta, then the Vento, then the Bora and now the Jetta again.....But now VW have a Vento and a Jetta in India :S

and a vento/jetta with a fabia front... so what is what, the bora is based on a mark 4 golf, the jetta is based on...? and the vento is based on a mark 3 golf?

edit: the vento in that link looks lke the same interior as the skoda rapid...if the vento is based on the latest golf, then the skoda rapid (fabia saloon in my eyes) is a mark 6 golf underneath...confusing

no no no :giggle:

Mk1 Jetta - Mk1 Golf

Mk2 Jetta - Mk2 Golf

Vento - Mk3 Golf

Bora - Mk4 Golf

Mk2/5 Jetta & F/L - Mk5/Mk6 Golf

But in the rest of the world you have the Mk1, Mk2, Mk3, Mk4, Mk5 Jetta as they didn't use Vento and Bora name anywhere but seemingly the UK :S

The Indian Vento seems to be a Fabia Saloon/Polo Saloon (or possibly slightly bigger but still on a Polo/Fabia frame) and the Jetta obviously based on the Golf as it is the same as in the UK.

Got it?! :giggle:

you mean mk3 vento is based on mk6 golf.

skoda rapid/fabia saloon definatelt has the interior very similar to the latest vento, it's nothing like a fabia hatch/estate.

if skoda launched the indian fabia saloon/rapid into the uk and called it the fabia saloon with the same engines as the hatch/estate, we'd get fabia insurance for golf/vento sized car..

Mk3 vento? Never mentioned a mk3. Can't possibly be based on the golf as that is what the jetta is there for.

Hope it doesnt come to the UK

I quite like it, not that I'd buy one. If I want a longer Fabia I'd get a more practical estate body.

Many countries have saloon versions of models that we only get in hatchback.

I think most of the hire cars in Turkey are Clio saloons and you can't get those here either.

Hmmm interesting - ABS is not standard over there.

Its a Fabia version of the Polo 6R saloon. I like it, its different and I can`t see why it shouldnt be brought over here. Its nowhere near as ugly as the 206/Clio saloons.

I like small saloons - I quite like the idea of a vRS saloon or a Polo GTi saloon - it would be around the same size as a E30 M3 so it shows how much modern cars have grown!

I like it  it looks good  not a fan of the name  rapid will always be 3dr and rear engined to me :)

It's OK but no good to me.

Not many saloons in the UK as they do not sell that well, which other maker has a saloon in their UK sales?

True, but they are different and you get more car for your money (plus they have a much bigger boot than a hatch)

As for who has a saloon in their current range, uhm, everyone?

Jetta, Passat, Phaeton, pretty much every single A, S or RS series Audi comes as a saloon mainly (excepting the 1 and TT), Seat Exeo, 3-series, 5-series, 7-series, Octavia and Superb are some obvious examples.

Most maunfacturers lie and label them as a hatchback when in reality they are 5-door saloons.

You're getting confused.

Have a look again at the link to the Indian VW site JRW posted in post #8.

The current Vento is not based on the Golf (any Golf).

The Vento is what they call the saloon version of the current Polo in India. So it's the same size as a Fabia/Polo, not a Golf.

Most maunfacturers lie and label them as a hatchback when in reality they are 5-door saloons.

Eh?

A hatchback is where the rear window glass opens as part of the boot. In a saloon the glass stays fixed.

So if it has five doors (like an Octavia) then it is a hatchback. By definitiion there can't be such a thing as a five-door saloon.

What makes you say the Octavia (or whatever else you are refering to) is a five-door saloon?

octavia saloon? That's a new one on me!

In India, the Vento is just a Polo with a boot. This car is the Vento with the Fabia front. The interiors are identical to the Polo/Vento except for the steering wheel and gear shifter which are from the Fabia. Also the bootlid is mildly modified as compared to the Vento. The tail lamps are different but fit into the same Vento slots. Skoda initially planned to call it the Lauretta (The Octavia is called the Laura in India), but changed to Rapid later. The Octavia was rebadged as a Laura as Skoda was selling the previous generation Octavia alongside. This is a common practice in India. For a while we had 3 generations of the Alto sold side by side. The next gen Octavia will see the return of the Octavia badge to India.
