Passenger side front footwell

Featured Replies

I know the water in the footwell and wet carpet has been covered many times, my question is I have sealed both door carriers front and back and have no water sitting on the door seals when I open the doors. However both front and back are soaked, I pulled up the carpet in the front and the sound protection stuff both soaking wet. The floorplan had a puddle in it, I then found what appears to be a rubber gromet in the middle of the front floorplan the top of it has split. Could my water ingress be coming in from under the car through this gromet. I have now put a bin liner over it and between the soundproofing and the carpet in abid to keep the car dry. Any advice greatly accepted many thanks

It could also be blocked scuttle drain channels, that's what was causing water ingress in my front passenger footwell.

Rear passenger side could be screenwash leaking into the footwell. There's a point at which the washer pipe becomes detached and just needs pushing together behind the trim at the side of the rear passenger seat (with the two round bits holding it).

Also +1 on front passenger side being blocked plenum chamber. Best way is to remove the wipers - 13mm nuts, once nut removed put back on a few turns and wiggle wiper up and down relative to the glass to free it from the spindle, which is usually the most difficult bit. Remove the 3 clips holding the plastic scuttle panel in place (these are guaranteed to break, buy spares before starting). Then you can remove the scuttle panel and get your hand down there to remove all the leaves/compost. I ended up using a vacuum on mine with the nozzle attachment to get in the nooks and crannies.

And check the door seals are fully pushed home particularly the front one by the top hinge

Hi,

I'm having the same problem only the water is in the drivers footwell and then its getting into the rear drivers side footwell. So annoying!! I know all the door seals are sealed up properly. Im going to have a go @ removing the scuttle panel and see if there is any leaves etc stuck down there however I used the torch to try and see if there was any leaves etc in that area but it seemed clear. Is it possible to see into that area without removing the scuttle panel??

Ive been reading your posts on the wet front footwell DRJ - very informative :) I'm ready to rip the entire carpet out of the car just to find where the water is coming from lol At one point I thought the water was coming in from the underside of the car somehow... still not ruled out.

You can probably sufficiently loosen the trim around the door aperture and pull the carpet back from the door pillar to see if it's leaking there without taking everything out.

For others wondering what we're talking about here go to Damp carpets - a new source of the problem - Leakage around door seal

Thanks for all the replys, Im going to cover the rubber gromet in the floorplan with a clear sealant and check the other area's mentioned. If i cant get to the washer pipe I will get my garage to look at the car as its now starting to get to me. I want to sell the car and buy a dry one.

Hi can someone please give me instructions on how to get to the washer pipe connections mentioned above as cant see how to get to them. Im no mechanic so step by step would be a great help many thanks.

For the one rear passenger side. Tilt seat forward by releasing with lever at top. There's a piece of trim with 2 round poppers holding it. Pull the trim off and recover the round poppers. Somewhere amongst the wires is a thick washer pipe tube, and highish up there's an obvious push joint on the pipes. Push together and hopefully you'll hear a satisfying click. Otherwise it may be elsewhere (engine bay etc). Using poor quality screenwash that freezes, or diluting too much, is the most usual cause of pipes popping off. The best screenwash for winter IMO is the 5l bottles sold at Lidl.
