Scraping sensation from discs when applying brakes on my vRS

Featured Replies

 Hi all, anybody have a similar problem on their vRS? My brakes scrape, and squeel, admittadly more so when the brakes are 'cold' when starting off, after a while the scraping seems to improve, but not fully; the scraping sensation is only on braking, I've had two different dealers inspect, and assure me that everything is ok, when I reverse and apply the brakes, it sounds like a ships horn, and the brakes squeel under normal braking, it's a pain, problem appeared when the car had only done 3k miles.

Anybody have a similar issue? Thanks

Check for stones between the disc and splash guard. Also consider getting some anti-squeal paste applied.

The noise from cold is probably the pads clearing off surface rust which has formed overnight. The groaning in reverse is a known problem for which there is now a cure - a 'damper kit'. Do a search and you will find previous threads on this which include the part number to put under the nose of your dealer.

Thanks guys for your help :)

My rear brakes have the "damper kit" fitted and yes it works.....well upto now anyway

Sorry, didn't realise it was a Fabia vRS. Just assumed it was an Octavia.

FYI.

It appears that the Furby brake scrape is common, Had my 20k model, compared to a 10K model, both did the same, there are a couple of hints on the site " search " is a good function.

It appears to be the rear discs, they are worse during the winter when the salt from the road gets to them.

An Empty road, and sudden braking from 50 - almost 0 approx 4 times will wear this noise down- something to do with the rears not getting as hot as the fronts during normal use. Other tips around the site.

Hope this helps.
