adjusting Steering weight?

Featured Replies

Morning,

I have been thru the Vag com thread for the Fabia and Ive put the Anti Hijack on the car, I have also found out the car has a proper alarm too lol, which I didnt know about.

One thing it says you can do is adjust the steering weight?

Ive followed the destructons but I cant find the 0001X1 numbers in it to change the X to 4 or 5 to make the steering heavier as my Octavia is pritty heavy, well till I get the R32 PAS pump.

cheers

billy

Are you using a registered version of VCDS or what else?

I am using VCDS lite. Registered? Cheers

VCDS Lite has limitations compared with a registered version of VCDS. See the thread below. I think you will need to use a registered version to do the adaptation required to change steering weight.

ok, Ive borrowed Fatty5000 cable and it is the same as the vcds lite.

Can you change the steering weight on the mk1 fabia vRS 2005?

there is only 2 things to change

Chassis

Steering assy (44)

Coding (07)

software code and workshop code are the only things I can edit and neither seem to have enough numbers.

Is it even pos? or do I have to put up with the F4nny steering weight. I not a fan as its so damn light. lol

cheers

billy

Steering assist (44)

Coding (07)

Change value from 10120 to 101x0

1= Lightest

5= Heaviest

I've set mine to 4

I'm taking no responsibility if it goes pear shaped though!emoticon-0105-wink.gifemoticon-0136-giggle.gif

cheers mate, Ive tried it on 5 and its made no difference lol,

Must just be the car is afterall a city car. also my octy has the S3 rack and std PAS pump which makes it heavier lol. Ill go for 6 again after work in the morning and drive home and see.

cheers

billy

I changed both mine and my mates to 5, made both noticeably heavier. Not super heavy but better than before.

I changed mine to 4 (ie 10140). 5 was too heavy and the original setting of 3 was too light. But in the end it is all down to personal preference.

right I have changed it to 10160 and tbh it felt lighter!

I have now put it on 10161 and its heavier now. not a bad weight, might have another play about again tomoz.

cheers

I'd be careful of what you've just done, since you've changed a digit which doesn't refer to steering weight (which is the 4th digit in the group). I don't know offhand what the last digit of Steering Assist coding does, but you may want to check it and put it back if necessary as you're not changing what you think you're changing by using that coding :)

As above! That coding is wrong. Not sure what you might have changed with that but I would put it back asap if I were you.

I changed mine to 4. It was originally on 1 which was waaaaay too light!

Mmm

So why did mine get lighter when I changed it to 6 yet now I've put it to 61 its heavier?

Where can I find out what it does?

What's the worse that can happen?

What's the worse that can happen?

Really need to know. ;) Things can get seriously wrong if you change coding, something stops working, and you can't remember the original code.

As said above its the 4th digit, not the 5th one which alters PAS weight. Also, yours has a 6, but to my knowledge the PAS weight only goes from 0 (lightest) to 5 (heaviest) - you putting in a 6 might have done something as I believe this is outside the scale.

I have tried 4 and 5. tried driving and there was no difference.

THe only time the weight changed was when I changed the 5th 0 to a 1.

Ill change it back before work tonight and see.

in the max number at the start in () it says it goes up to 6.

Ill have a play.

  • 3 months later...

What's the outcome Billy?

Did you leave the last number on 1? Has your car exploded ;)

I want mine A LOT heavier.

lol

Na Kris mate, its still all fine, I ended up just going back to the original code just in case. I have got used to it now really, just need to keep calm and not try driving it like the Octy lol. only use the Fabia for work and long trips now.

Just make sure you write the original number down and see what it does.
