Advice on exhausts and Mods

Featured Replies

As you all know im getting an octy vrs soon (shroud's old one)

I was just wondering about what you guys think about the mods ect i will inevitably do to the car at some point

Thankfully he has fitted a rarb and weitech coilovers on it as well as a shark remap :)

so this means i can just concentrate on bits and bobs

The first thing i want to do is a panel filter as i think induction is a bit garish and i can get just as good a job from a new filter...anyone prefer a particular brand?

Next will be a stainless steel exhaust system and sports cat, however there appear to be a million to choose from for this car! and all sorts like turbo back down pipe cat back and all that so which one is best? I also want to ask is it possible to get one that has a sporty note without deafening you, i mad the mistake on my fabia of making it sound like a rally car haha and making your ears bleed! what i really want is a nice raspy note that is not going to be loud on the motorway ect.

finally brakes what have you guys found best i think i may just uprate all the pads and disks just to improve the overall handling as that's all that needs to be done :)

any visual mods that anyone recommends it is silver so i understand it wont be as evil as black :p

If funds allow I'd go for a turbo bk milltek (others have different brands they prefer) I had a milltek on for over 3 years and couldn't fault it. As for a panel filter I'd go k&n (lost 5bhp with pipercross on my old motor) do wouldn't touch them. Again others will recommend a new oe panel filter.

The choice is yours

I have a jabbasport induction kit on mine which is essensially a jetex cone filter with a metal cage round it to try and keep some of heat of engine away from filter, if you don't mind induction noise and recirculation valve noise then get a cone filter, if you want quiet put a panel filter in standard airbox,

i've just bought a second hand milltek cat back for mine and it looks quiet well made, well better than the jetex i had on my volvo that looked like a bag of rust after a year of been on car

oops was it easy to fit? and what was the aftermarket one?

Easy 3 jubilee clips, job done in less than 5 minutes, haven't a clue what the other one is!

nice easy job for me then should be a nice easy mod that gives something back should work well with the map,

My minds going mad with things to do to the car haha as it has coilies and a rarb maybe a strut brace? or maybe it just wont need one ill see what its like when i get it haha and from what i understand if you have the 24mm rarb there is no need for a stut brace unless you have the 28mm rarb and the r32 farb

I'd say avoid a panel filter. They gain you nothing and lose you filtration and ease of servicing.

As for an exhaust, if you want raspy then I'd consider a Supersprint system (if you can find a UK supplier). I can highly recommend Piper, which is what I have, but it isn't really a raspy exhaust note.

Brakes... OEM suit my needs fine but I've never been that hard on brakes.

As for external cosmetics, on my one I had a LCR splitter (removed by a pile of horse ****!) and have dubmeister plates, Czech dealer surrounds, LED number plate lights and VRS wheel centre caps. All minor stuff but go too mad on a mk1 and I think they can easily look tragic.

in terms of the exhaust i just dont want it to deafen me haha and pannel filter a waste of time realy wow so you would say induction?

brakes i think im going to uprate pads front and rear to something like the ebc red stuff and go for slotted disks all round nothing too mental just a bit more oomph in the brakes.

styling wize Uprated headlight bulbs, Led sidlight and numberplate bulbs, dubmeister plates and black surrounds (may even go briskoda haha)old school badges and centre caps, aero wipers, wind deflectors, and maybe alloys at some point but yh i like minor changes they keep it subtle

thats a sound clip of mine which is a Pipercross Induction kit, Piper Catback and a Milltek Sports Cat. In hindsight I would recommend using a different sports cat just because of fitment issues but the sound and quality is awesome :D

Sounds good, would be good to hear in the flesh! Have you seen this as I see your local?

Nope, I would stick with the paper filter. The stock setup doesn't leave the car breathless until you get to the realms of "stage 2" levels of tuning.

I know this is your car but are you sure it had coilovers? i thought it was just uprated springs and dampers? I think they work out for better ride and handling but you just lose the adjustment
