Trip computer question.........

Featured Replies

Found this statement on another thread about mpg in a vRS...

In reality 60% town 30% A-roads and 10% motorway I get around 200miles for £20 (16-17ltrs?) = 53-56mpg.. on the trip "2" setting (does not reset until you tell it to) is around that mark

Can someone please tell me then why every time i switch my ignition off my trip computer reverts back to zero on setting #2. i dont think im telling it to... what am i missing??

my old audi a3 used to have a constant average which didnt use to disappear???????????

2nd one is current mpg isn't it?

Must be a faulty computer then, maybe the permenant live has come undone?

I take both trip computer 1 and 2 are resetting each time you turn the ignition off?

Trip 1 should only reset after the car has been left for over 2 hours.

Didnt think of that one cheers.. only had it nearly two weeks & so far is always left over two hrs before re-use as im off work..

will get a better idea when im back at work.. i just had the idea from somewhere that one of the mpg figures would not reset to zero unless i pressed something..

That must have been a long time ago with 17 litres to £20 lol :(

Looks like you should check out the manual on how to use the computer. I think you're assuming the AVERAGE mpg reading is the #2 setting - it's not. When you're looking at the average press the button underneath to access the #2 setting. As noted the #1 setting resets to zero after two hours. The #2 setting only resets when you hold the button on.

I dont have a number 2 setting? I just have average trip 1 and current mpg :/

They all have it, cycle through until you get to trip mileage, total trip time or average mileage then press the button on the under side of the stalk once, (if you press and hold this the trip computer resets so be sure you just press it for no more than a second) the number 1 in the top corner will then become a number 2! And there you are, trip computer two.

Edit: what car have you got? Age model spec etc.
