I'm looking at this thread with interest as am after a good indy recommendation in Oxfordshire.

I've used Grey Gables (main dealer) near Witney for servicing my two Skodas including my Octavia 4x4 and never had any trouble with them, but would like to know of a good indy as it gets older.

Hi Guys,

I live in Oxfordshire, about twelve miles west of Reading. I had the same issue needing my VRs servicing, having just passed 53k.

I dont know whereabouts in the county you are, but the previous owner of my car had it serviced at a place called Autowerkstatt. They're VW Audi & Porsche specialists. They're based at Unit 2, Woodmans Yard, Little Tingewick, MK18 4AG (close to Bicester). He spoke fairly highly of them and the service he received. I have had no direct experience with them though.

Others on here have recommmended Browns at Thame, apparently they're a site sponsor.

After some deliberation though, I decided to go with Unit 18, near Milton Keynes MK12 5NL. They come recommended on this forum and although it was a good hour and a quarter drive, I took the car to them this morning, for its annual service and to have the console (front wishbone) bushes replaced with the more sturdy Seat Cupra ones.

The guys there were very knowledgeable / friendly and efficient. It was clear from watching them work through the car, (from a safe distance, for any H&S execs reading) that they were very familiar with the VRs.

Alistair took the car for a couple of test drives when they'd finished, to make sure that everything was in order. He even took the trouble, completely unprompted, to take the steering wheel off and re centre it. I hadn't even noticed that it was slightly off centre.

I'd like to think that I'm a reasonable judge of character and they seemed like decent, honest, knowledgable guys, that were happy to discuss the car / things to look out for / pros and cons of popular mods. I would have no hesitation in going back to them again in the future and was very happy with the service I received.

In fact, I'm going back next week to have the drivers seat recovered. It's got a small tear in it from the previous owner.

I should finish by stating that I have absolutely no connection with the business, merely went there on the basis of feedback from this site.

Best wishes

Skid

Thanks Skid, I'll check out Unit 18 and Autowerkstatt. I'm in North Oxfordshire, so Tingewick (and MK) isn't too far.
