been on here about 6 month since the wife signed up posted hi and never bothered, so i took over now the cars been bugging me since we got it and since i have the time since my almost 5 month old isnt as demanding.

this is a 51 plate octi tdi elegance 110

now first of all the glow plug light and EML never ever comes on and i did think there was meant to be an EML (this has been confirmed) now i have a feeling this is because the car will go into safe mode during any journey that involves leaving 4th gear (i know the 2 possible reasons for safe mode to do with the turbo) but the symptoms or the way this comes about is not as described to do with sticking vanes in the turbo and some one has been trying to hide problems with the car.

the car can some times make a funny noise like an evil laugh but sounds like grating as well this happens now and again normally under acceleration but stops if you lift off even just a couple of mm and have no idea what it could be but dose sound like its from the back of the engine.

also the seat belt light goes off even if you haven't yet put your seat belt on.

im guessing the lights can be solved with VCDS but i don't have access to this, we have had the car on a vag code reader but the car will not respond and its annoying that i don't know what's going on with the car.

Probably the least of your worries but the seat belt light and beeps is normal, it only beeps up to 6 times on my car even if you don't fasten your belt. It should stop immediately though when fastened.

it wont beep at all so far the only thing is the low fuel bong when you first turn the key but now and again that's non existent, the low washer fluid light came on and beeped the other day and the oil light came on and beeped today and the hand break on beeped when the had break was still on one click, the wife used to drive them as taxis so knows a bit and in turn iv been round them its just the fact non of the above mentioned warning lights work as they should, i think i could drive off with no seat belt on and no beep would happen.

I have a 03 tdi elegance and as someone else has said, the seatbelt light should comeon when you start it up and beep about six times then after that it stops even if you drive off without your belt on. If its an ex taxi perhaps it's been disabled as we all know taxi drivers don't like wearing their seatbelts

I've never noticed a beep with any of the other things but I don't think I've tried any of them yet.

How many miles are on the car?

I have looked on my 2001 110TDI Elegance, and I don;t spot an EML when I first turn on the ignition. Maybe I will have to read the book and check the actual symbol I am looking for (I am pretty sure I know what it should look like though).

As already mentioned the seltbelt bongs are only bong so many times before it gives up....

Low washer fluid can cause a more of a "beeeeeeep" than the bong from the seatbelt warning. Low coolant caused a "beep beep", and I can't remember what low oil does (orange light, not red) - I think that is a "beep", and driving along with the handbrake on will get you a beep after a few seconds.

the seat belt light comes on and goes off with no beeps what so ever and afaik the light should still be on if the driver has no belt on, and yea the low washer fluid was more like a beeeeep, its never been a taxi as my dad is a licencing officer and checked, it has 132k miles on it other than safe mode drived like it should but again also kinda concerned its been clocked as the car we px for this one was a petrol with over 120k on the clock but on the add they had put 79k even tho they had wrote the milage down, is there any way the lights could have been disabled via vag-com also as said in op a vag code reader cant get any info from the car just comes up with error or cannot read.

Bongs for the seatbelt can be disabled, jsut leaving the light to act as a reminder. The light only stays on for a few seconds before going off - it is more of a reminder than a warning. This behaviour is by design. I believe the same can be applied to low windscreen wash, and it might be possible to enable a beep when the multi-function display changes to the temp display when the external temp is below 4 deg C.

Sure mine had a glow plug light. I will read the manual and pop down the garage later today and have a check.

i kno2w it gives a frost warnng when it goes below 4c i had a chech this morning and the glow plug light is on for half a sec and i know thats wrong and the bong when you first turn thr key is low fuel warning,

just the eml light and the fact the car wont respond to diagnostic is annoying.

found this and noticed one person in there has a 2001 car like ours and has no eml must be something on the early cars that kind of makes me a little happier for the new MOT rules that all warning lights must come on and go off as they should, just now have to convince our MOT tester that there is no eml on our car as standard if thats the case.
