To polybush wisbhones or TT bushes?

Featured Replies

Hi all,

Now xmas is out the way I can spend some more time (and money) on the car at last!

On both sides wishbone lower bushes have gone, so the wishbones have to come out so I'm going to do front & rear bushes at the same time.

Having a snoop around some people are claiming horror stories of the lower bush popping out when the car is being jacked up etc. saying they aren't fit for purpose, wear prematurely and saying TT lower bushes are better than poly.

In terms of the front bush has anyone made the change? Only reason I say it is because I can get a Front & Rear kit and save us a few quid, it seems rear bush is a lot more common to failure than the front, suppose there is more stress on it or something.

I'm not bothered about ride harshness, I'd far sooner drive a car that crashes around a bit but handles tight over a wooly, unprecise weaving mess.

In terms of polybushing for me it's always been superpro.. Never been a fan of powerflex and other brands, unmatched in terms of quality imo.

So yeah, what's your experiences? Anyone got both front & rear wishbone bushes poly, anyone used TT bushes etc etc.

Any help would be great ta!

I have the TT ones,my car is 100% stock ,I choose them because they last longer. For the standard suspension (with 16 inch wheels) they are a bit harsh,I feel everything on the road, even the smallest pebble, but they will get tolerable after 3-4 months.Driving on ice roads will bring alot of vibrations in the cabin

The upside is fast quick cornering, even with the standard soft suspension, the car is much confident

polybushed mine, no issues of popping and im running the car quite low. firmer ride but thats the idea, old ones were knocking their faces off

I have superpros and they've been in for about 4 years with no issues.

Thanks mate

Is that both bushes or just the rear bush?

Thanks for the replies guys, think I'm definitely going with the superpro's.. I just want to sharpen up the front end a bit.

Has anyone had any experience with the control arm bush with the castor angle increase? Would an increase in castor angle mess up tire/suspension/bearing wear etc etc..

You can't get the castor increase bushes for the standard Octy wishbones, you have to have the 'cast' LCR/R32/TT wishbones for them.

You wont go wrong with SuperPro bushes..... It was PowerFlex that causes loads of 'popping out' issues!

PIR Racing do a good deal on the complete kit....all depends on what you want to spend though.

Powerflex revised the design from what i read hence me going with them

Thanks for the Link. I've use pri in the past and they are really good. I don't fancy polying the whole car at once as if I don't like a part or section I will just revert back however if I do the whole car think it would be a bit over kill for me.. I'm not even on coilies or anything! Gonna do some mods this year though.. I've already got the dogbone polybushed that was a brilliant mod..

As mentioned you can't use the castor increase kit with std octy wishbones

I have them on my car as i have changed the wishbones/Hubs/Steering rack for Audi TT ones(Including R32 FARB and S3 upper lower strut braces).

This set up makes the Octy far more positive on the road and the castor increase bushes are fantastic. Over kill for most people, but night and day change for me.

going back you your question, TT solid bushes are a great upgrade if you wish to keep Octy std. Far better than the OEM Octy ones. Superpro are great to but not really needed for a std kept Octy. Unless you are gong down the whole suspension change route.

Funny that the castor increase bush has the same OE part number as the normal ones though..

Early poly bushes (powerflex) were well known for splitting like that.

here is my early ones.

however superpro and powerflex have both improved and changed design and don't do that anymore.

Old powerflex o.es are crap

New superpro are amazing metal sleeved like oem and solid. It all depends on your plans with the car!!!

Im running the caster ones with full r32 setup but its a track car and I aim for over 500 bhp ;-)

I have both sets of wishbone bushes, arb bushes and rear beam bushes all Superpro from PRI.

The bushes are made in Queensland but it was cheaper for me to get them from the UK and ship to NZ than to buy from the local distributor!

Sorry to Hijack the thread, but would these be any different to what I have now on my MK1 vRS?

If not, what should I be looking for when I get TT bushes, just the genuine parts?

Hi there sorry but the pic you have is for the Audi TT front wishbone front bush. That is no good for the VRS and won't fit. The bush you need is the front wishbone rear bush like this one.

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/AUDI-A3-TT-FRONT-WISHBONE-TRACK-CONTROL-ARM-REAR-BUSH-/220878147790?pt=UK_CarsParts_Vehicles_CarParts_SM&hash=item336d5d10ce

It is the rear bush that gets most of the force.

The difference between the Audi TT rear bush and the VRS is the Audi is solid and the VRS is voided which makes a lot more movement and wear.

This is one for the Octy. You can see that the top and bottom of the pic has a cut out void.

This allows the wishbone to twist the bush and stress it more than the TT one.

Hi guys... just an update. Had the wishbone bushes done and the difference in the car is awesome. Under hard cornering the car holds the road and changes direction so much more positive.

No where near as harsh as I was expecting either, probably because the old ones were hanging out.. :dull:

But yeah, dead chuffed!
