Power loss on felicia 1.6 glxi

Featured Replies

Just wondering if any one has had a power loss problem with a fleicia 1.6. What i mean is when accelerating a sudden jolt occurs form time to time, and then there is no response on the accelerator. After a couple of presses the engine jolts back in and responds, same happens if the clutch is pushed down and then lifted back up. My dad thinks i need a new clutch, and i was wondering if this could be causing the problem. Any one who has any idea as to my problem please reply.

Sounds more like a ignition problem to me, have a good check of the HT leads and distributor cap.

from the sound of things i think i may have the same problem with my 1.3, when accelerating from stationary or at low revs i get nothing from the accelerator briefly followed by a surge, throwing the car forward. after that its fine. i too wondered the problem. I think when my dad used the car he sprayed some wd40 on the distributor and it seemed to help it for a while and it ran smoothly. admittedly he hasnt a clue when it comes to anything technical so may have been coincidental. but if there is anything you cant fix with wd40 or gaffer tape i dont want know about it!!

i have been advised that maybe spraying things on the distributor cap is not recommended (ah well, it worked for a while). using proper distributor lubricant as my haynes manual suggests is supposedly a better option.

Had a new clutch fitted as old one was on its way out. Have just tried out a bit of wd40 on the distributor cap. it was baddly corroded so have cleaned it up. Only time will tell as to whether the probem persists.

I recommend you replace the distributor cap asap and probably the rotor too. The price of the cap is

I have replaced my distributor cap and rotor arm, and yet i am still having a power loss problem. Does anyone have any more ideas?

the other ideas i had as to why mine is playing up is a blocked or generally dirty air filter, or blocked fuel line, or perhaps even a spark plug issue. im not equiped to check these things till im tooled up so cant confirm or deny any of this. just possibilities

Thanx for the quick reply john boy, will have alook at the fuel line wen i can, air filter is new, im sure iv checked spark plugs, will let ya know how i get on

Drive the car up the road at around 20mph. Dump it in 5th and stick your foot to the floor. If it starts missfiring or jerking away its a pretty good bet one or more of your HT leads are breaking down. If it chugs away and builds up speed evenly they are ok.

Failing that distributors are fairly common to go tits up, usually the hall sender goes inside causing either cutting out or non start.

My 1.6GLXI some times has power loss, in fact it cuts out all together under exceloration, take my foot of the pedel and put it back on again and it kicks into life.

I think it is tied in with electrics somewhere as when I blew a fuse on the fan the problem did not occur, replaced the fan fuse and it started again.

Still trying to fix the problem.

Skoda dealer werent much help either.

Cheers

Guy.

ive had another theory for punnanipete's original problem, and its very simple.

with my car i noticed my oil filler cap is no longer sealed and when the engine turns it flaps about and has been leaking oil. well, when i temporarily mended the seal not only did it stop leaking oil but the car also ran perfectly with no power loss at all. this could well be coincidental, very likely. but that temporary seal has loosened and the problem came back.

so, check your oil filler cap, is it loose?? i may well be clutching at straws, but you never know.

check valve clearance clean the carb with a cleaning agent after that blue it with air commpression then try iam 90 % sure it is the carburator if not there is something in the fuel pump or fule line

check valve clearance clean the carb

you dont need to adjust the valve clearances because it has maintenance free hydraulic lifters' date=' also it dosn't have a carb because it is fuel injected.....

my thought are the same as lummox on this one, the first thing i would check is that the rear camshaft oil seal isn't leaking oil into the distributor/hall sender assembly

The thing I've noticed about these forums trying to deal with engine faults online is people always come up with the worst possible scenarios.

I just fixed a problem on the same model, 1.6mpi (glxi) see //////////////1.6 overheating.

BUT noticed as i was running the motor to 'find' the fault, that when accelerated from tickover, all you got was a pop and air being sucked into the manifold, i.e. it 'bogged down'

I had to replace the thermostat ( which comes with the housing - £42), the radiator - £64, and the fan sender - £10.60, now it runs much better, apart from solving the overheating this also cured the odd-running fault.

Obviously, I'm not saying this is your problem, merely, that it sounds as if a fail-safe has been operated due to some other fault. Urco

Spraying WD40 will repel any moisture....so it is possible that the problem is with damp.

yes that is a possibility, the damp causes tracing in the distributor cap and therefore a missfire.

ive got the same thing with my 1.6 i have done everything i can think off and its still there ill change the fuel filter now and see wat that dose as im sure its a fuel matter.

My old felcia did exactly what you are decribing and it took 2 or three trips to the dealer to fix

It turned out to be crud in the fuel lines, They disconnected the fuel lines 1 by one and blew them through with a coimpressor until they found it. They emptied they fuel tank and cleaned it out and changed the fuel filter. Took them a while but it did sort the problem.

I hope yours doen't take such drastic action to sort

:(

well mines fixed now i had water in the fuel lines changed the filter and cleaned it all out runs like a dream now:)
