TPSVAG economy parts

Featured Replies

Been in TPS today getting some prices and my man in there is offering economy parts

We compared two brake discs and tbh I can't see the difference other than the zinc(Ithink) coating on the normal ones.

He was at a bit of loss to tell me what the story was with them, he's gonna find out at some point.

Anyone know what the deal is with these economy parts

I noticed a leaflet on the Eco range when I went to pick up a timing belt kit yesterday, seems like a good marketing ploy to get people with older vehicles to start getting genuine parts cheaper, I asked to have a shifty at some of the brake pads and I cant tell the difference at all, most of the oem brake pads come from TMD friction anyway (mintex, pagid, etc) all the same company and 9 times out of 10 the oem pad has the same pagid part number stamped on there as well as a vag number.

As for the brake discs, the oem ones have an e-coat applied to them and they are sold as singles, the aftermarket equivalent ones often don't have an e coat or a z coat and are sold as pairs.. Having the coating makes no odds to the function or longevity of the disc anyhow because within a mile it's all off, I guess they do it to prevent the disc from getting surface corrosion when its sat on the shelf at the dealers and also means the fitters don't need to clean them before fitting, whereas the plain uncoated ones with be oiled instead and you need a solvent to remove it.

Makes sense Tom

Might as well get the eco discs for mine then, about £20 per pair

Front (312mm discs, 5 x 100?) for £20 per pair? Or is that for rears?
