service indicator???

Featured Replies

hi all,

on my octy vrs my countdown service indicator has come on, im currently at 600miles to next service, but my service book says next service is due at either 30,000miles or 7/6/05. my car has only done 26,000.

do i need to get it serviced now or is this just a pre set message?

help please

Is it a Fixed or Variable sevice car ?

A quick search on here will tell you which letters to look for in your service book, that will denote which type of service. I am not sure what the Octy's are .

If Variable = get service done,

If Fixed = Take it to dealer & ask them to check the ECU setting.

no the car has always been fixed servicing as far as i know.

If it has been reset from QG1 (variable service intervals) to QG2 (fixed service intervals) then the service regime is as follows:

Fixed service intervals (QG2)

Carry out an oil change every 15,000 km (10,000 miles).

An Inspection Service should be carried out every 24 months. The Inspection service always includes an Oil Change Service.

# An Oil Change Service should be carried out if the car is driven 15,000 km (10.000 miles) before a period of 12 months has elapsed.

# If the car is driven more tha 30,000 km (20,000 miles) before 2 years have elapsed, the Inspection Service should not be carried out after two years, but after 30,000 km (20,000 miles)

# Change brake fluid every 24 months.

You should be able to work out what is required next and when by checking your car's Service Schedule (service record booklet) to see what types of service have been carried out and when.

right i asked my dealer, they said the indicator must just need reset as its fixed servicing, can i do this myself or is it a trip to the dealer???

This is strange because my car does exactly the same. I changed from variable to fixed servicing and I've noticed that the service indicator comes on 1000 miles before it should. i.e. if the service is due at 35k miles the 1000 mile countdown begins from 33k miles.

I think that its a cynical ploy by VAG to get people to service their cars earlier and over 100k miles that could mean 1 extra service per car and some additional revenue for the dealer.

I'll add that mines going the same thing.

Fixed service due at 60k or 16th May.

Currently on 58650 and service indicator shows 300 miles to go.

I intend to ignore it.

is there anyway of resetting it yourself?

is there anyway of resetting it yourself?
Yes. The procedure is on page 64 of the Octavia Owner's Manual.

thanks denis

Carry out an oil change every 15' date='000 km (10,000 miles).[/b']

I love the way the two numbers are different.

If I drive on the continent where the signs are in KM would I have to get my car serviced every 9312 miles

I think this is probably the reason for the alarm coming up a bit sooner than we expect, as the brain of the ECU is probably programmed in km and then roughly converts it to miles. I know that mine told me it needed a service at around 38,000 when I expected it to go on until 40,000. And guess what my calculator makes 30,000km? Yup, 18,641 miles. So if my garage had reset the ECU when the last service was done at 19,500 miles, the next service wouild be due at around 38,000. QED I suppose.
