Coilover life expectancy!

Featured Replies

Was going to go for a Koni STR.T or a similar fixed suspension kit.

Considering Coilovers now, more specifically AP as they are in my price range and getting very good reviews on here.

I do around 20-30K a year and hoping to keep my Fabia Vrs for the forceable future, so the question is Will Something Like AP last 60-80K ?????

How much you looking to spend?

You mention AP and Wietec's, there a good price difference there

Years ago, i had an old Audi A4 diesel. I put a Koni kit (and 18s) on her at about 130k, and did really start getting issues till 200k.

By 225k, the cost to replace all the issues with the front suspension was far in excess of the car, so i sold the car for scrap.

I personally wouldn't worry about the longevity of a good kit.

I would rather spend a little less and go for AP over Weitec but if spending extra will give me longer life span that would be worth it.

 Was that a Koni fixed kit or Coilovers?

All I'm concerned about is: Are the coilovers similar in quality and internal spec to static kits, or is having the ability to adjust makes them work harder and therefore sacrifices the lifespan (lifespan of a standard shock and spring is deemed to be 80-100K). Wouldn't really want to end up spending £500 on a new kit every year or so due to the kind of milage I do lol!

20k to 30k a year on coilovers are you nuts, I would just get a decent spring/shock setup as i think you will find coilovers to hard for the time you spend in car

Im going all out and getting KW's

The life expectancy is not a main worry to me, main reason for buying coilovers is to improve handling and just like everything else in life, the less you spend the poorer quality you get and two birds with one stone they will be better manufactured, last longer

^^^^ this.

If your worried about how long they will last then dont but "budget" set up. A decent set of KW`s are not only likely to out last the rest, but they will probably be more comfortable given the length of time your in the car for.
