HELP - Where do I connect my amp's power cable to the battery

Featured Replies

Where do I connect my amp's power cable to the battery, when I take the cover of the battery I have 4 positives and 2 negatives, I assume there is a normal battery under that lot (somewhere)! :o

Can I connect it to one of the four postive terminals?

I can't find a 'simple' answer on other threads!

if its on the actual post terminal of the battery them it wil be fine, just make sure it isn't after a fuse

Just what he said, although of course fit your own in-line fuse.

Sorry I'm a numpty! What do you mean by the "Post Terminal"?

Something that's attached directly to the bit of metal that sticks out of the battery, or is connected bia a straight-through cable (i.e. no fuses in the way).

yup, the twp short round things coming out of the battery(not being sarcy just can't explain well), one should be red and the other should be black these are you live and negative but if your putting something in the boot then run just the live(red) and connect the earth of your device to a good earth on the car, basically a big bolt somewhere via a crimp lug

hope this helps, just took and poorly editted this for ya

Cheers People. You been Great.....

As been said, you can either go straight on to the battery terminal, or use one of the positive feeds from the cover on top. I've done the latter. I'll attache a pic in a sec as it's more relevant coming from a fabia :P

Edited to add the pics :)

3767.attach

3768.attach

That looks very tidy, well done :)

I did it much like this, only difference being I drilled a 10mm hole through the top cover and fed the cable through there so that the cover fits on easily. Doing it this way also mean you can hide the fuse in there, nice and close to the battery like it should be!

very nice xav

A see a 10mm hole cut in the cover so it fits on nicely.

I assumed Xavier had cut a slot rather than a hole, as the wire doesn't appear to run through the top cover in the first pic and it is zip-tied to the earth cable so couldn't be fed through then placed out of shot for the pic...

I'd also pull an earth lead back to the boot, same quality as your positive lead, that way you'll get less loss and it's about the same amount of work. Don't need to put an inline fuse in for the earth lead though :)

but then you need a big cable front to back, which will take up precious room in trim. better to find a big bolt in the boot

I used the same guage earth cable, but earthed to one of the seat belt mounts - much easier that way :)

Very true on it taking up room - but the loss in a high-q cable will always be less than through a car frame ;)

Will it? There's a lot more metal in the bodyshell of the car than in a bit of shielded cable. I wonder if there's any way of measuring? Perhaps with a multimeter?
