VRS petrol..

Featured Replies

I've owned a vectra 2.0 turbo for the last 5 years but its time for a change and I am pretty certain that the TFSi Octavia will be my next car. What are you guys getting MPG on the combined cycle, and does it get anywhere near the 37+ claimed figures? Are there any main faults on the new engine that i should be aware off? What kind of price should i be haggling for with the dealers in Glasgow and can you guys recommend a good one? I've averaged 30 odd Mpg for the last 60k so anything more than this will be a bonus, also the old vectra has been mapped to around 220 Bhp so it goes well enough BUT i'm assuming a mapped TFSi would be a fair bit quicker...? B)

Cheers guys.. ;)

Do you mean TFSI (pre facelift) or TSI? Mine's a TSI (2010 /facelift car). I drive it pretty hard and average 32-33mpg. You can get a lot more out of it if you drive it like your gran, but that's not really the point is it?

:)

Remapped TFSI or TSI will be 240-ish bhp or maybe a little more for the later engine. Lots of info on remapping if you use the search function.

HTH.

Ooops, the new engine so the TSI. Yes, I've had a look at the mapping section, some good results! Thats pretty good economy if your driving it hard, my vectra would be low 20's if i punted it everywhere

Cheers for the info buddy..

I bought a new Vrs Dsg in May and I love it.

I get around 35mpg which is a good mix. On longer or open roads I can get nearer 40mpg. I think that this is great for an auto.

I bought mine from Newmarket in Stirling who done a good deal. Most other dealers around central Scotland had a very take it or leave it attitude.

28mpg commuting rising to 30-33 on a run. You can get 40+ if you really pussyfoot.

Cheers guys, i will give the garage a call in Stirling to see what deals they are doing on manuals..

its pretty decent I think

I drive upto Aberdeen from newcastle every now and then and best I managed was 42mpg!

but its easy enough to get close to 40mpg on a long trip

its an engine for everybody I think, if you drive in a relaxed manner it will reward you with a fairly generous fuel consumption given its power and size, but there is the poer there to get you out fo trouble or make for easy overtaking

30 mpg in town

40 mpg relaxed driving on a roads / motorway

35 mpg combined

28 mpg giving it some beans!

You will easily achieve 240bhp on a TSI stage 1. Many on here are running mid 250bhp. However its the torque that will blow you away - expect 325lb (std 207lb). Its superb!

Give Alan a call at Thomson and Potter in Burrelton. It's not that much further.

Although he's so laid back it can be hard to get him to sell you anything.

I fell out with the salesman at Stirling.

As said its curiosity more than anything about the fuel economy, I'm used to driving/feeding a heavy petrol habit :giggle:

I will give the garage outside Couper a shout, might also price up the diesel too and see what the price difference is between them BUT I'm a petrol man at heart and it seems most modern diesels are quite problematic..

Rob, just been reading your blog on PH - i think you about summed up the car perfectly! B)

Avoid the Glasgow dealers, they wont do you a good deal (I tried).

Phone Drew Duncan at Ayr Ingram. Mention Bryan Kerr put you onto him and give him your spec. He'll match/beat new car drivethedeal prices.

Thanks buddy - will give them a call and see what they say

I think I'm going to plump for an estate, 2 small kids and lots of gear so i think it makes sence. Can you fit an adult bike in the boot (mountain) of an estate, or is it wheels off job?

There only is one dealer in glasgow and its Henry's Skoda. I bought my new VRS off them and couldnt fault them. i also use them for all my servicing and they are giving me free columbus map updates for as long as i own the car.

They quoted over £1500 more for the same new car I bought so wont be seeing me anytime soon and I gave them all the prices and details to beat, then tried to sell it to me via a monthly payment figure.

Another BIG  for Ingrams at Ayr. I've just bought my 3rd car off them now and they beat Drive The Deal. You never get the hard sell either, which I like.

Wheels off you can fit a bike in the boot without the seats down (hatch or estate). There aren't that many cars of the Octavia's overall size where you can achieve that.

Rate them highly They've had 3 sales from me in the last few months. Soon be getting commission lol :)

So are there any current issues with the TSI engine that i should be aware off?
