noise from wheels

Featured Replies

Hi Guys,

I've started getting a noise like a whom..whom...whom..whom when getting to about 26mph til about 39mph then it goes, some one reckons it's the wheel bearings but doesn't this get louder the fast you go? I was just wondering if any one had any ideas what it could be? i'm running 17's

Thanks

thats a very posh car

mine just says who, who, who

^ lol

Try jacking each corner up and spinning the wheel you will soon know if its wheel bearing.

hahaha sounds like a lightsaber :)

Check they tyres arnt unevenly worn, if they are stepped or mishapped they can cause the noise to sound like a wheel bearing

what exactly am i looking for? if the wheel falls off? hah

You can't always diagnose a faulty wheel bearing by jacking it up and listening for noise, the hub needs some weight for noise to show up. Swap the wheels around 1st. to prove it's not them thats causing the problem.

So do you recommend swapping the two front with each other and the two back with each other?

Ta

Yeah put the front tyres on the back and the vack tyres on the front

tyres +1

i have 3 sets of Kuhmo KU31's that sawtoothed on the rear.

tread blocks wear more on the front than the back (or vice versa I can't remember) causing a really annoying hum that sounded like a wheel bearing

I'll swap the front ones with the back tonight, would that be something to do with balancing / tracking if they are wearing uneven?

Not all the time could be incorrect tyre pressures, some tyres do wear unevenly for some reason

yea tyres were at 24psi put them to 36 because it was stood around for 3 months waiting for an engine, also, when I brake sometimes the wheels feel like they're wobbling to the left, is that normal?

Could be dodgy tyres. My wheel bearing sounded like a bitch. Infact every garage I took it too thought it was the differential.

Hmm, well i just tried taking the wheels off for the first time on this vRS, and yea total FAIL, managed to snap off the wheel locking nut inside the bolt, now i've got another problem... sigh
