Headlamp Protectors

Featured Replies

May have been covered in another topic but has anyone fitted headlamp protectors/covers to their vRS or Monte Carlo with the darkened lenses?

How does it look?

You can get then for the pre face lift MKII Fabia and Roomster......but I have not seen them for the current face lift as the headlamp shape is different where it meats the bonnet edge as the bonnet is less curved.... B)

Why would you want to fit them ?

To protect the headlamps from stone chips!!!.......I've had some big cracks on the protectors which are cheaper to replace than a new headlamp unit!! B)

That's unlucky. Polycarbonate doesn't chip.

My last 3 cars have had polycarbonate plastic lenses. I can't see aftermarket 'protectors' being made of the same material. After all, polycarbonate is what they use on the cockpit covers of fighter jets. Pretty unlikely they'll get ruined. I'll bet if there was a poll for owners who had their headlamps ruined by a stone chip it would be extremely small.

Won't chip but will just dink a little emoticon-0148-yes.gif

I've sen polycarbonate shatter/crack etc under the right conditions as it is also used in "bulletproof glass" as well as figher jet canopies etc.

You need to drive the back roads that I do with the stones/chippings on....get some of these kicked up at your car at 60mph and you should see the stone chips I get on the car's body including on the "soft" plastic bumpers!!!!...

Granite chippings which are very sharp traveling at 60mph do alot of damage!!...I've had some very nasty stone chips on my windscreens as well!

P.S. even if you think the headlamp units are "indestructable" just google "headlamp" polishing!! Or how to get rid of the yellowy, pitted, crazed, look on your plastic headlights (i've done this to a mates MKI Fabia who does not have protectors)......never had to do this mine......if I take the protectors off to clean them the headlights look as good as the day they left the factory!....
