temp gauge hardly budges - thermostat?

Featured Replies

basically, since owning my '99 felicia 1.3mpi the temp gauge has never seemed to move at all (untill sat stationary in traffic for 10 minutes this morning when it budged to just below the first mark) the heaters don't really seem to blow out hot air, more warm really and the 2 fuel fill ups i've done since owning have resulted in about 33-35 mpg.

searching this forum has led me to believe its my thermostat/temp sender and a few people have said jorily do a thermostat housing and thermostat but searching on their website they only list this for the 1.6, there isn't even a thermostat listedfor a 1.3, has this been discontinued? they list a temp sensor (yellow) for £6.49 so will get this.

do i definately need the housing? can i not get away with being extra careful and just replacing the thermostat on its own?

other than the poor mpg (my mk2 golf gti does better!) it starts and runs fine. any help/advice would be greatly appreciated

Hi my old polo was doing the same so i whipped the thermostat housing off to check and thare wasnt a thermostat in thare so the engine never realy warmed up the ecu would wack loadsa feul in thinkin it was cold and the heaters were  have you removed the thermostat housing to check it?

MY stat was dodgy. It warms in stationary traffic, but never gets really warm. Took it off and it had broken on the plastic casing - common problem.

PLEASE CLICK HERE FOR THERMOSTAT
