Cold Hands

Featured Replies

Started today with cold hands after topping up the screen washer bottle.

No gloves on and was reminded that ,when the heating system is on automatic, no warm air comes out of the centre vents.

Easy to over-ride the air flow but why is the system not more biased towards the upper body?

When the weather is very hot, cold air does indeed come automatically out of the centre vents to stabilise things.

I used to get cold hands in the car. Now I take my jumper off and just wear a shirt, admittedly it feels colder getting started but my hands don't get cold.

Would guess its to do with convection. Hot air rises, so the heaters pumps out air lower down the car to heat it up as it rises. No need to heat higher up the car as the air rises itself.

To cool down, the cool air doesn't rise (it falls) so more efficient to Coll air higher in the car and cool the whole car down that way.

Also. probably to do with demisting / defrosting windows.

In cold weather the warm air is directed to the feet and also to the side vents to clear side windows.

Turn the heated seats on and sit on your hands for a minute!
