Around 2,000 rpm a metallic tapping noise when foot on fuel but one off fine, am I being anal ? It's only faintly there but always there under accelarating ? Vibration? Or something more sinister and it's just had a service although it's always been there

sounds like normal deisel noise to me... there is a marked difference between off throttle and even very slight on throttle... it can often sound metallic... I wouldn't worry

Mine does that at 2000rpm, and yes off throttle it goes and hard on the throttle and it goes too! Sounds like pre detonation (pinking)? Seems a pretty normal noise, the VW CR isnt the most refined diesel out there.

Pinking? I do run it on vpower diesel this may be it .

I doubt it is pinking, just sounds that way.... mines always done it but in the last thousand miles Ive noticed it more as the whole engine seems louder. Maybe its loosened up a bit?

Most diesels make metallic type noises at various times in the rev range, when cold or hot. Most diesels sound noisier when cold too and very rattly. But it isn't usually anything mechanical making the rattly noise, it's just the combustion process which is very noisy during cold running. When hot this noise goes away and another noise starts!! Diesels don't suffer from 'pinking', that's a petrol engine anomaly. Diesels suffer from 'detonation' and that usually destroys the engine, but it's very rare nowadays as the electronics kick in to save the day.

It's like a rattle on and around 2,000 rpm as its on others here I'm not worried

my car is common rail and it sounds like a bag of spanners like most other diesels
