Rip Off or What?

Called into a local Skoda dealership on the way home tonight (WA postcode)to enquire about an accessory.

Whilst in the showroom, I noticed they had a Fabia SE in red with the 1.4 petrol engine. Now I know (and so do many others) that this model is advertised by Skoda any many other dealers at £8995. So how come the WA postcode dealer can advertise it at £11,995, some 25% more expensive than anywhere else? Seems to me they are treating their customers with complete and utter contempt - they simply don't deserve any business in my book. Rant over but buyers beware.

Because £11,995 is the correct price for the 1.4mpi SE hatch. The £8995 price some dealers are offering the car at is the lowest I expect a dealer can get the price down to.

be well worth travelling to a postcode other than WA to save £3k

Just realised that the price difference is 33% and not 25%. The antics of the motor trade never cease to amaze me.

No sorry to disagree.

This 1.4 model isn't in the Fabia brochure and hasn't been for some time. It is a non standard production run I think to use up these old engines. So it doesn't have a recommended retail price as such.

Skoda's own website are or at least were promoting these at £8,995 in red, white or blue only. I even saw a marketing bulletin from Skoda to a nearby dealer just before Xmas setting out what the deal is. So if Skoda are saying £8,995 and the dealer is advertising them at £11.995, that's a third more again which in my book is 33%. Anyway, the point is that the dealer seems to be trying to get one over on customers as he will be buying it from Skoda at the lower price.

Yeah...it's now being shown at the proper price of £11,995 on the Skoda website.

To start at £8995, you will add around 33% (Actually closer to 33.2%) to get to the £11995 BUT the other way around, £11995 will be knocking off about 25% to get to the £8995 figure! This is where your discrepancy is!

As for the pricing, always haggle anyway! tell the dealer you have seen the lower figure and if they cannot match it, WALK! Remember, another, lower priced dealer could always arrange to deliver, may do so for free, to do the deal or even if they charge, it will only be a few hundred, tops!

If you have more than one dealer in your area, play one against the other to screw them to the lowest price, then, get a few extras, like mats, mudflaps, etc thrown in. i did this but got 20% discount on servicing, and spares.

They will still make money out of me but not as much, so I will go to them rather then an independant service centre!
