New DSG Software - Quick Update

Featured Replies

I mentioned on another thread that the DSG gearbox in the Jan-12 Fabia 1.2DSG seemed to be better than that in earlier models (in my case, a Jun-11 Roomster).

I've done about 200 miles in it thus far, without any low-speed hessitation whatsoever.

It seems to use two techniques to avoid it - changing to a sudo-sport mode when more rapidly decelerating, keeping RPM's above 2k, and holding on to the selected gear, even 3rd at c.1,300rpm, otherwise, just making use of the good torque available from the TSi anyway.

I've booking in the other one for the software update but that's not going to be for a while, hence no idea whether this is purely software related (garage not willing to state any opinion, which I guess is fair enough!).

the general "drive" mode should go into the "dynamic" program if its driven enthusiastically... this will be the "sudo-sport"mode you describe :)

Roomster TSI and Fabia TSI have different gear ratios, maybe that's the difference...

I've driven the two cars back-to-back a bit, and you're right, the ratios are a bit different. In the Roomster it will do 6th at an indicated 30mph, whereas in the Fabia it needs to be more like 32/33 (indicated).

Anyway, there are big differences between the two. There is WAY more engine breaking available in the newer car, I'm guessing here but maybe the ECU could be holding the throttle open with fuel cut?

Secondly, in the older car, when approaching standstill the car is declutched. This doesn't seem to be the case in the later car, as a result it's often easily possible to pull up to junctions without breaking at all. But, I think that declutching is the cause of the delay in the older car. The delay simply isn't there in the newer car, at all.

Both respond identically to down hills (automatic down-shift when brakes are applied).

However, gear changes themselves are a lot smoother on the older car. Actually near undetectable driving gently, where there's always a slight feeling in the newer car.

I've booked the older car in for software updates in a couple of weeks time, will post back after that.

I've asked to our local dealer (Istanbul, TR) giving the VIN number for my 2011 1.2 TSI DSG Fabia. I've been told that there is not any update available recently.

Update on this.

I had the ECU software updated on my Roomster (1.2 TSi/DSG, May-2011) yesterday. The initial results seem very promissing - no hesitation thus far!
