MOT failure - o/s door lock mechanism

Featured Replies

Good evening,

As the title says, just taken he vRS for its MOT and it's failed on the rear o/s door not unlocking! (can't complain really for a 2003 car)

I've managed to sort out a new mechanism, but just wondered how I get the door open so that I can remove the door card and fix it?

Should have thought really and sorted it before the test....just completely slipped my mind that they'd fail it on that and only realised when the tester went to open the door!

Cheers in advance.

Whacking the outside of the door whilst operating the remote unlock often works, otherwise it's a bit of a struggle getting the door panel off with the door closed.

Search the forum as there's been lots of people had this problem.

Cheers for the replies....I've had a good search and still can't find a guide on how to remove the door card with the door locked shut.

I'm thinking unscrew the door card behind the tweeter and the two screws behind the internal handle. After that though I'm a bit lost!

Any ideas please guys! My car is currently not road legal because my rear door wont unlock...slightly annoying

I've only been on here an few months and I've seen a guide somewhere its defiantly on here

Do as FordFan says, otherwise you can just force the panel off along the bottom and sides (the top is pushed down onto the top of the window opening.

Obviously you should remove the internal door handle screws first.

I think some members have managed to get a torx bit onto some of the screws. However these screws are just screwed into bits of plastic which are pushed into the door, and can be bought from the dealer for a few pennies as they may well break when pulling the panel off.

There might be a better solution - have a search.
