Has anyone else noticed any panel deformation around the door handles of their SM. At first I thought they were dents caused by careless drivers but the dents are in exactly the same place around the handles (especially the front)on both sides of the car. Looking at other makes of cars I have noticed this on them as well, the Ford Fiesta is particularly bad. Is there a weakness in the metal that makes this area susceptable to stress when the handle is pulled?

it's a side effect of the manufacturing process as the panels are pressed plus the type of steels and there gauge used today, which tend to be stronger but thinner than in the past. Some manufactures are better than others. oh will also be effected by the age of the machinery being used as it wears with use.
