Cam Cover Removal - 1.8t

Featured Replies

Hi guys,

I want to tidy up the engine bay and im thinking of two things. Either painting the plastic cover in a nice shiney paint or removing it all together and painting the rocker/cam cover. Whats peoples thoughts on doing this and does anyone have pics of either?

Next part is really the removal of the covers. Anything to worry about watch out for? Ive done it on red top vauxhall engine and a saxo vtr. so i know the basics. re these gasketed or do you need sealent? any pipes to worry about etc?

Much appreciated in advance

Richard

i wouldnt take them off . painting them is a safer bet

oh nitrovrs you little temptress!!! is it just a gasket set and a bit of cleaning to swap?

looks an easy enough job. Dont think ill go to the extremes of all theother pipework you have removed just based on the fact im awfully confused just reading what you had done let alone attempt it myself.

Need to find me a spare to paint so i can swap it over!

May I suggest getting it powder coated for long life.

That's another option, yes. Been working out if there are any potential issues when removing it.

Cheers Steve that was useful. Think this is definitely on the cards soon

Mines coming off soon too replace the gasket as oil is leaking from the rear. Got new gaskets for a couple of quid off ebay lol

i thought you ment the plastic cam belt covers sorry DOH :smirk:

I am in favor of removed covers, painted covers don't look that good IMO.

I polished mine along with inlet manilfold

I think this job will be on the cards once I've done the cambelt, tensioners and water pump. Been looking at my bay today and it looks good with the cover on. Might paint both, cover for day to day and without for shows haha

I think a polished rocker looks good - painted cover though, no!

Thanks liver lad Haha.

I wouldnt spray the plastic cover. Worth a fair bit so no benefit in wrecking it.
