auto dimming rear view

Featured Replies

quick question, is this just a supply 12v from ignition and it will work jobbie, or is it more involved??

I think its just a supply from the interior light you need as they don't take much voltage. Are you fitting one off a golf? Was talking to Phil the other day who fitted one on his seat, he said that the bracket on the windscreen is slightly bigger on the auto dimming screen. He got round it with glue

Sure you have to use the Skoda mounting foot to fit the Bora armrest in an Octy.

Yup that's true. For some reason the foot that came with my arm rest was made of steel and beautifully welded. I've only seen alloy ones from the vag group

That's right. If it's the one for vehicles with rain sensor with the bit plastic base then the mount is bigger but I just glued the new mount round the old one. Looks very neat inside and outside.

If you want the part number:

3B0845543A - retaining plate for rear view mirror, interior / for vehicles with rain sensor

I think it cost me about £8 but not entirely sure as I bought the plastic wiring cover at the same time.

There is a positive (switched), negative and a connection to the reverse light (so it switches off in reverse). I haven't conencted the reverse yet as I've yet to find it.

Hope that helps.

I have done the same with a Passat B6 (i think?) auto dim mirror. The mounts looked Identical but when fitted it was a little loose so i bent in the metal clips a little and a small dot of super gel keeps it solid. This featured a plastic shroud around the wires that fitted neatly up into the headlining again looks really neat and OEM. as per wiring I tapped into the driver side interior lamp switch above the mirror which was the easiest option and allows me to turn on and off the auto dim function (took the bulb out that side so just using as a switch) as this is live feed to the light unit is permanent live so didn't want peoples house security lights, or cars passing by my house at night setting off the mirror and draining the battery. Some mirrors have a switch/button built in to them like my Mondeo did to do this so only need a permanent or switched live feed, but the Passat did not.
