Big mouth bumper

Featured Replies

Not sure what it's called but was wondering how it's done and what parts if any I need.

I understand that it's normally done in line with a FMIC but I'm just after looks now although the FMIC is on the cards but not for a while.

Had a quick search but couldn't find anything but I'm a bit blind when it comes to searching through pages on here.

Ta Guys.

Quite simple, make the grill bigger with a hack saw, get some mesh, cut to size and stick it on with tiger seal. You will be able to see the bumper bar and the options are to either cut it making it weak or to get a forge fmic that comes with a modded bumper bar.

Ok so what's the effects of cutting the bumper bar is it just if I smash into something or is it gona loosen up the chassis atoll?

If you crash into owt leaves the front very weak, if you're good at welding or know someone that is you can reinforce it making it strong again. Personally I wouldn't recommend cutting it unless its reinforced after

Yep not a good idea to cut it. If you had a head-on and the insurers had someone go over the car and found the bar had been messed about with they'd refuse to pay out. I'm not sure where Forge intercooler owners stand on this, presumably Forge can guarantee to insurers their item is just as strong as the original bar.

Ok so I'll be leaving the bumper bar alone for now. Gona go for it this weekend any1 got any pics of a silver Vrs, can't picture what it's gona look like. Think I'm gona do the bonnet grill at the same time as mines broken.

im not a fan of these....makes the front end look...i dont know....cheap somehow. i think they ahve a place and of course more cold air on the intercooler can only be a good thing but it just makes the bumper look after market.

Is it worth doing now or is it not best to wait till the FMIC is fitted?

+1 I think it makes it look like it's trying to be a Jap car (Evo, Skyline, whatever) which it isn't!

Hmm I don't know now. I think it looks awesome on furrys car in black but not so keen on the silver car. As said it looks like its trying to be jap.

Its whole point is to give a space to get cold air on a large front mount cooler. If you dont have one or have a smaller FMIC like me....standar front end is fine.

your car your style!

i cut the number plate recess in the middle and left enough space either end for velcro. then painted the remaining plastic back. means i can check the plate back on in standard location if needs be, keeps the oem bottom grill too 387115_10150918730920072_735470071_21651455_398558150_n.jpg

Lcr Splitter then that will change the look for not much money

I would recommend that you don't put one on till after winter. Found out last year that they make good snow ploughs lol

What are the cheap lowering kit on eBay like? The roads here are really bad so I don't won't anything to hard?

For cheapness I'd just put on some lowering springs. Depends how many miles the dampers have on them

  • Author

Std dampers look Ok not to grubby. So just throw on a set of 40mm springs. Now got to hunt an LCR splitter.

Make sure they are Octavia vrs -40mm as if they are for a standard car it will only lower it by -5mm as the vrs is already lower.

Will do thanks for the advice reg springs.
