Pikey Mods!

Featured Replies

Evening all,

Just so you know I am aware how pikey these mods are at the moment...they will be vastly improved!

First is my cone filter: had to get a 90degree reducer pipe from ASH (auto silicone hoses). 60mm ID seems to be a snug fit on the throttle body, on the other end is an Apexi cone filter pinched from an MR2. I think the cable ties finish it off nicely B):giggle:

I will be making a bracket to hold the filter securely in place...just need to identify where I'm going to bolt it to...anyone any idea's?

Some more pics:

Next is my very pikey/cheap/temporary catch can:

No explanation needed

So on the to do list is:

1) Put some ducting in to feed the engine some lovely cold air.

2) Bracket for the filter.

3) Possibly make it into a full CAI with some perspex or something similar to encase the filter - thought this may look pretty cool, bugger to clean I imagine!

4) Fit a real catch can! Something like this - http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Oil-Catch-Can-15mm-Fittings-Universal-Breather-Tank-Crank-Case-Breather-Square-/330674802885?pt=UK_CarsParts_Vehicles_CarParts_SM&hash=item4cfdc110c5#ht_500wt_969

The good thing is it can be unbolted, so I can but some baffling in and pop a bit of pipe on to take the inlet a bit further down - so the vapour doesn't go straight out the exit pipe!

On the exit I'll just stick a mini filter on.

With regards to the cone filter, it makes a massive difference! The loud pedal is now actually loud  You can't really hear any difference until you get past half throttle - then it sounds brilliant. Good when you're cruising, won't deafen me!

Not just the sound, the throttle response has changed - especially mid range.

Also, on the standard massive black plastic 'air filter' the valve for cold start was stuck so I was always sucking in warm air from above the exhaust manifold :'(

Definitely recommend a cone filter!

Loving the catch can!! How much was that and where from?

I would make a surround for that filter to hide it from the hot surrounding air.

Haha I believe it was £1.29 from whsmiths, on the pricey side!

Yeah the surround was on my possible to do list, fully enclosing it is more attractive though personally.

Something like this: http://www.autosiliconehoses.com/silicone-hose-shop/ash-accessories/air-filter-heat-shields.html

Just got to measure it up and see if it'll fit.

Making a heat shield also makes it little louder too.. :D

This is how you should do it......NOT PIKEY THOUGH!!!!!!!.......OEM++++...... :giggle:

B)

EDIT:

TBH you have it cable tied all wrong as the engine rocks back and forth under load, so the filter/catch tank etc should be tied to the engine..not to anything else! There are four bolts/mounting positions you can use.....remove the black plastic posts that the OEM filter sits on and use these....there are also two mirror ones on the other side of the cam-carrier which the black metal pipe is fixed to. You can see that I have re-used three out of the four holes!!!! B)

Did you get 330ml of free pop with that catch tank? - its simple but works.

Is that pipe in the catch can a tight fit? I hope not, as it'll breathe a **** load of pressure into it and blow it off covering your engine in oil residue!

I would also tilt the can a little so the oil vapour doesn't drip onto the engine and down the bulk head.

I know it's not very Eco friendly but it's only temporary - just to catch any liquidy bits. Yes it is a tight fit but the bottle has holes along the top to let the pressure out...

And cheers for that suggestion fabdavrav, just altered it.

.....oh......dear !!

I'm loving the ghetto catch can. would be better if it was a giant red bull can, or kronenburg :wonder:

why not cut a it hole in the bonnet with a cutting disc to feed cold air to the engine :giggle:

Redbull was out of my budget I'm afraid.

Cutting a hole in the bonnet would be in keeping with the pikey theme....but no chance :giggle:

.....oh......dear !!

Do you not like the mods then?
