Fabia Greenline 1.4TDi Estate - engine oil

Featured Replies

I've owned a 2008-plate Fabia Greenline 1.4TDi Greenline estate for 9 days now. The first 520 miles of mixed motorway / rush-hour town / minor country roads saw a return of 58.3mpg (with which I was well pleased ... but must probably try harder :)

The "Help a newbie" question is: what brand / type of engine oil are others using in this model of 3-cylinder diesel ?

Any oil that meets VW 507 spec. Do NOT ever put anything in your car that doesnt meet this spec.

My local dealer uses Castrol Edge. The 507 spec is essential. This applies to all Fabias fitted with a DPF.

Good luck with the car, driving sensibly in summer I easily get over 70mpg. One other thing, sometimes the engine sounds a bit noisier than normal... sort of louder exhaust noise. Thats the DPF regenerating and does this approx every 110-140 miles

Edit: Its 5W-30 I believe and is also classed as 'longlife' oil. The 5W-40 isnt 507 spec.

You are a **STAR ** ! Many thanks for that speedy reply :)

Had winter tyres fitted yesterday ... driving to Inverness tomorrow, and up again - this time to Aberdeen - in 2 or 3 weeks ... thought they might be sensible, given the weather outlook ;-)
