Hello! New Octavia owner...

Featured Replies

Hello :)

I stumbled upon Briskoda looking for Skoda Forums on Google and have been browsing around a little bit for a couple of days...

I can assure you all right now that you're going to get very annoyed with all the [probably very obvious] questions that I'll end up asking!

I've got a New Octavia [Classic] 1.6 MPI...

- Air Con

- Small Leather Pack

- Graphite Grey Metalic

- Some other things I can't think of off the top of my head (clearly not especially important add-ons then!)

I had ordered a few other things, but a mess up on the order meant they werent on the car that arrived, and I couldn't wait any longer to get my car so took it as it came for a bit of a discount!

I kinda wish I'd gone for something more powerfull, but I can't complain... Insurance is bad enough as it is, and this is far better than the horrible little Citroen AX 1l that I had before!

Also...

I can probably proclaim to be one of the first people in the UK to crash a New Octavia! I hadn't even made the first payment on the loan before some numpty decided he'd rather use my lane on a roundabout in London. Naturally he promptly provided dodgy details before driving off (and yeah, i got his reg number ;))!

And about me, in case anyone is interested...

20, male, nr Guildford/Woking in Surrey, UK

Work for software company as a Technical Support Consultant for far less money than most people assume IT bods are on!

I'm a member of St John Ambulance and am training for Surrey Police as a Special Constable** at the moment.

** most people don't really know what a Special is... It's a volunteer police officer with Full police powers. Unpaid in most forces. Same baton, cuffs, CS & uniform as a regular. The answers to the two most common questions: Yes I can arrest you and no I cant get rid of speeding tickets :)

Oh... And my name is Steve! :)

Hello Steve :wavey:

Hi Steve

Agree with the more powerful qoute, thats why next week my 1.6 classic departs for an 02 vrs hatch. Why the Specials, I've been a regular in Kent for 4 years and no job compares, (I ws a screw before that!!!), just go for it -and with the extra dosh u can get a Vrs!!!!!

Welcome :wavey:

Stick with it, and you can change to a different model, once you have the cash / finance.

Welcome to Briskoda, Steve, and bad news about your car. Is it badly damaged?

Oooh, a nice warm welcome :D

Problem with something more powerful is that the insurance goes up even more - as it is it's over 2k! (thats before ever making any claim). I've only got a years driving, nearly 2 i guess now... and im only 20. 20 year old with VRS or teh 2L TD = shocking quotes!

Thinking about it my insurance is up for renewal in a couple of months.. Ill have to try out the briskoda insurance partner people

The car is fine now, thankfully! Good as new save for hubcaps which ill get round to replacing eventually! The whole front passenger wing needed replacing, bumper replaced, light housing replaced etc. Prolly cost around 3k in total (I didnt pay though, so...)!!!

The dealer (Withams) were quite good - took a little longer than i'd expected, but that's always the case, and it was booked in quite quickly considering it was a 'busy time' for them apparently. :)

As for the Specials... I guess I want to try and get my monies worth out of IT before the regs - I spent 5k on different courses and stuff trying to prove my level of skill, it gets me jobs but not the pay I deserve!

Also the waiting list is up to 2007 for Surrey at the moment (though quicker if you're already a special or police staff ;)). I'm quite a cautious chap generally and I guess i also want to double and tripple check that policing is something I enjoy! 99% sure that Ill go for the regs so far!

Welcome on board, Steve
