Are you lovely people able to tell me what battery you have before i go to Skoda to complain?

I have over the last 18months had a few battery drain issues and just put it down to using radio, blowing up tyres etc without the engine running. But i had to get a new battery for the Bora over the weekend so thought i would check to see how much one was for mine, only to discover that all the websites state that the battery for mine is the same as the Bora (70Ah minimum). I have just checked mine this morning and it is only a 61Ah battery!

Not sure how you'd go about complaining about it, tbh. As I mentioned in another thread, I was in EuroCarParts over the weekend buying a battery for my Fabia Mk1, and the guy said to me not to worry if it was a different battery but what was recommended would meet or exceed the specs.

Personally, I'd put it down to it just being a strange type of custom battery (yours is obviously made by Varta on behalf of the VAG group for the Mk6 Golf platform, mine was some random Japanese-sounding brand I've never heard of but again, was custom made with a VAG part number). If you look on a battery supplier website, they probably just recommend 70Ah because that's the smallest they do which meets or exceeds the OEM spec of 61, as obviously having too many Ah is fine, having not enough may not be.

For the record, I think my Fabia Mk1 battery was the same specs as yours, 61Ah and 330/540A (I think the higher of these figures refers to the CCA figure?) and that's a 7 year old battery from a 1.9TDI, and has a 1J part number meaning it was originally used on the Mk4 golf as early as 15 years ago. If they were redesigning their battery needs now, maybe it might be more but they probably just keep churning the same spec out as they do the job and mass production makes things cheaper...

Well the bora which is a mk4 and a pd130 had a 70ah battery from new. 61ah isn't a custom size as the bloke next to me in ecp on Saturday had just bought one for his petrol vectra. I reckon they've put the petrol one on mine. If anything it should be higher than the bora as it has more electrical items on it and also coming home and leaving home lights.

If other 2.0cr owners have the same then so be it.

Mine looks to be identical in MY2011 VRS TDI CR.

Ah ok....seems woefully inadequate then for a diesel unless the crank needed isn't any where as near as high than the PD.

it has more electrical items on it and also coming home and leaving home lights.

They're nothing extra, just the dipped headlight, coming on automatically.

Nothing extra? 8 x Rear bulbs and 2 fog lights, don't call that nothing extra......along with my MFD3 which sits with the fan running for 15-20mins after the ignition has been switched off and starts up as soon as the doors are unlocked....

They're not extra, even without coming home and leaving home light the car still comes with tail light and headlights/fog lights.

What?!?!?! The Bora doesn't have CH/LH lights so therefore that is 10 bulbs that are on when the engine isn't running that weren't on my other car with a high cap battery. My car with lights on will drain the battery enough so it doesn't start in under 15mins.

My 2.0 PD140 also had a 61Ah from new. It just seems to be the size most Octy diesels get, regardless of specific engine capacity/type.

That sounds like a problem with the battery itself not the size of it.

Get it checked as it may have a cell down.

Correct for your car pal.

Thanks for all the replies. Must be Skoda cost cutting then!

no worries but can't see it lasting the 7.5 years the Bora one did at this rate! I will get it tested at the weekend though just to be sure there are no dead cells.
