First service (10k)

Recommended Posts

Afternoon all,

My 2011 VRS CR is having its first service in a couple of weeks. When I booked it in I mentioned that I have a few small niggles I'd like them to look into at the same, nothing major and I'm assuming it's the sort of new car snaggs they'll be well used to resolving. The receptionist kindly gave me the email address for the service manager so I dropped him the list, thought it best to give them some notice incase parts to order etc.

The reply I had back just said "these items will be added to the job", not really a conclusive statement if you ask me...

So question is should the list below be a) simple to fix and B) done under warranty?

• Rear number plate is delaminating around screw holes (police have told me it causes reflections on their ANPR cameras which is why I keep getting stopped!)

• Boot catch plastic cover (the hinged bit on the sill) doesn’t spring back to close when bot is opened.

• Rattle from passenger side dash / glovebox? Can’t tell exactly where it’s coming from but it comes and goes depending on speed / temperature and road surface.

• Trip computer number 2 always resets to zero at exactly 475 miles. Weird!

• Wing mirrors. Both move down together fine but when moving back up the passenger side is slower so doesn’t come back up to proper level.

Any thoughts or experience of similar faults beign fixed would be great. Thanks all.

Mike

Do you have any paperwork from the police from when you were stopped? (just to show the dealer that you keep being stopped.) Idealy they'll stump up for a new plate.

I had a rattle that I swore was from the passenger side. However when trying to track it down, my passenger swore it was from the driver's side. Turned out to be my sunglasses in the roof-pocket.

10k? You not on variable? All CR's come variable from the factory.

The rattle i bet will be coming from the screw behind the panel by the vent feed to the door vent on the passenger side.

All fixable under warranty.

  • 3 weeks later...

So had the work done today, not entirely satisfied but will speak with service manager in the morning and see what he has to say for himself.

Looking at the job sheet they'd copied my notes above verbatim so should have been clear enough what needed looking at. They did call to say the mechanic wasn't clear on a couple of things and that id have to speak with him when I collected the car. Below are the issues again and the response...

Number plate delaminating. New one now ordered to be fitted Saturday. Fair enough, suppose they wanted to see it befor ordering replacement.

Boot catch plastic cover not springing back. "off side luggage hanging hook spring needed reseating, customer should attend to weight limits stated in manual" actual fault I reported not addressed.

Trip computer 2 resets at 475 miles: "its not mileage based it resets every 2 weeks"... Not according to owners manual...

N/s mirror not returning at same speed as O/S. "yeah we've seen that, nothing we can do"

When I dropped the car off this am ip added a couple to the list for them.

Please set to variable servicing (was on fixed, prefer doing this on new cars until 1st service). "yes sir, that's an extra £20 for the longline oil" so why does the manual say same spec oil for both fixed and variable then "it's the same but long life". I pointed out that if they've put in the wrong oil then by their own rules they have screwed my warranty. Mech was also at pains to point out that if I topped up. I must absolutely use what he called "long life oil" I asked him if it was that important then what grade/spec/brand I needed. Couldn't tell me...

Also asked for rattle near passenger side door / glovebox to be looked at. "loose a pillar trim on drivers side re-fitted".

At the end of the day I was knackered and neede to get home, long day so no strength for an argument.

Before I give them a second chance, name and shame etc. any thoughts on the above saga form you learned folks?

Many thanks as always...

Not Good.

Numberplate - do they not do that in house?

Boot catch - what has this got to do with the hook?

Trip2 - Not true at all

Wing mirror - doubt there is nothing that can be done.

Oil - UTTER RUBBISH. It MUST use 507.00. This is longlife, there is no other sort for the CR on fixed or variable, it is 507.00 or nothing so show them this and get your £20 back.

Number plate... Apparently not!

Boot catch... Nothing at all to do with the hook, they just didn't understand my issue. Numpties.

Trip 2... Thought so.

Wing mirror... Ditto.

Oil, exactly what I said. He tried some BS about 507.00 having 2 versions, let's see what the service manager says tomorrow.

To be honest these are all just minor "new car snags" (apart from the oil BS) which I'm only looking to get sorted as I paid what is for me a big stack of cash for the car. Otherwise it's a fantastic motor all round which I'm more than pleased with. Being a picky sod I just want to get these minor irritations sorted.

Having said that now that they've started messing me around I don't want to let this drop until I get straight answers.

The oil on the other hand sounds like its verging on a blatant scam...

Will let you know what the boss man says tomorrow.

Might want to point them to this off the TPS website:

http://www.thetradepartsspecialists.co.uk/quantum.php#

Longlife III is the only oil they do that meets 507.00 spec so they've either put the wrong oil in for fixed (very bad for DPF) or (more likely) pulling a fast one.

Or another way of looking at it...

Either a) everyone who's on fixed servicing they've been using the wrong oil.

Or B) they're trying to pull a fast one.

Fortunately I have the service managers email address so will drop him a line. May wait until the morning or the wine may obstruct my 'Sensible and reasoned argument'.

Really disappointing for a very well known and reputable main dealer.

@m0bov...

Yeah, thought of that but they're on the route to work. Next closest in 25 miles in opposite direction.

Shame local dealer in Wycombe (Browns) went t!ts up a few years back, they were great.
