towing with octy 4x4

Featured Replies

we plan to buy a caravan shortly & tow it with my 4x4. iv'e read quite a bit about the virtues of the tdi. the van i've looked at is a swift conqueror 550 lux & according to whattowcar site it should be ok but i'd like to hear from anyone who has towed same or similar van & how the car performed..............

btw had remap done so this should help with a bit more power........(232bhp).........

regds ect

The Octavia 4X4 was voted Tow Car of the Year by some magazine or other the year a while bacdk. The torque increase which came with the remap will be more significant when towing than the increased bhp and, providing the remap isn't too 'peaky', your car should tow with ease.

PS: I've towed 1200kg and 1350kg caravans with an assortment of cars including an Audi 100CD5E and a Peugeot 505 Family Estate. The latter was the least powerful but the best at towing due to max torque being at circa 3000rpm. The standard 4X4 has max torque between 1750 and 4600rpm hence the towing award.
