Fault code p1296

Featured Replies

Keep gettin this fault code appearing

I've changed the temp sensor for the newer green one which has sorted the non working dash gauge , buy today cel light back on. car sitting at 90 on the gauge

So I borrowed my mates scan gauge and that was telling me a coolant temp of 130 c !! Pulled over and popped the bonnet , was deffo not that hot ! Could hold the rad pipes easy enough .

What else could be causing this code ?

My air in take temps were at 54 seems pretty high to me ? Could they be linked in any way ?

Where did ya buy the temp sender from? Is it a genuine one? If its not a genuine one take it back and get a genuine one. If it is a genuine one then its one of the extremely rare faulty ones, so take it back and get a new one.

If your engine temp was low but the sender was showing 130 then something is wrong with the sender.

Seems to be fine after clearing code and doing 200 odd miles reverse on to drive and beep engine light on !

Temp was sitting at a steady 70 and 90 today which seems to be what these run at ?

Havnt read the fault yet to see if it's te same but I bet it is !

Could it be the thermostat ?

Check whether its the same code first.

When the thermostats fail on these they usually stick open (or open too fast) so the temperature sticks at about 70 (it should stick at 90)

If it is the same code and VAG-Com is showing a ridiculously high temperature then it could either be the new CTS is faulty (they are dual mode so even though the dash dials might look right the temperature it is giving the ECU is way out) or the other thing to check is the wiring to the CTS itself.
