Oil Filter Problem ?

Featured Replies

I was due to pickup my new Octy II on the 4th. I saw it last Friday when I went to sign the registration - it looked brill (even with all the seats wrapped in plastic). I also had a good look at the panels / paintwork just in case the delivery driver had gone under any low bridges :D

Just talked to Specialist Cars today they warned me earlier in the week they were waiting on a part after doing the pre-delivery inspection.

Talked to the salesman today. He said there was a problem with the oil filter on my 2L TDI and the mecanics didnt want to let the car go out until they had replaced it.

Seemingly as the engine is so new they are in short supply and are looking into getting one couriered from the factory ??

So full marks to Specialist Cars for doing a through PDI  and being honest about what they found but are oil filters for the new 2L PDI that hard to come by given the engine is also used by other VAG group cars.

Of course it may not be the oil filter as the salesman may have picked up the mechanic wrongly.

Anyway its no new Octy for me until the middle / end of the week :( . Salesman is on holiday on Monday but is going to find out whats happening and give me a call.

Anyone else had any pre-delivery issues.

Interesting one that, I'd have thought oil filters were ten a penny, especially as this engine is now used by Audi, Seat, VW and Skoda, and has been in use by all now for well over a year. Sounds more like they have damaged your car and don't want to tell you. Make sure you inspect the exterior of your car very carefully before you accept it, as they may well have had a panel re-sprayed.

For info I picked mine up last Saturday without incident, and don't recall any mention about oil filter problems on this model.

Thanks

Spoke to specialist cars today - its apparantly a gasket not the oil filter that is the problem - and is due in Tue / Wed - I'll make sure I try to speak to the mechanic when I pick the car up hopefully later this week.

Cheers

D

oops, that isn't good. I know there was a similar problem with the Fabia 1.4's but this was after a few thousand miles. Ah well, no recall yet then?

Thumbs up to specialist cars for finding it before releasing your car mate. Hope it gets fixed soon.

The problem was the gasket between the oil filter housing and the main engine block. The one fitted at the factory has a slight kink in the gasket which would have led to oil dripping out over time.

 to Specialist Cars Skoda in Aberdeen stopped the problem and were professional enough to not let the car go out until it was 100%.

Id rather have a small delay in getting the car and know its ok. They were also pretty good at keeping me informed as to what was going on.

Full review later but generally its a big :thumbup: for them (so far :) )

Good to hear that you are pleased with them. How about putting some comments in the Dealer reviews section here? :)
Given I now appear to have a nice new oil patch on my drive after only 3 days Im going to withhold judgement until I see now they deal with this.
Perhaps you misunderstood and what they were actually doing was replacing a good seal with a faulty one. (Just joking...:o ) You have my commiserations. :(

I promise I'll do a proper review of the car & dealer when I get a moment.

Anyway - a quick update for on the oil leak.

I called Specialist Cars first thing Tuesday morning. After checking with me that it was ok to drive and wouldnt need picked up (i.e. only a small leak) I dropped the car off with them - a fully insured courtasy car was provided (a furby estate) with a promise of an upgrade to an Octavia if they needed to keep my car over the weekend. I also droped of a short letter outlining my point of view (see below). In addition to the salesman the main mechanic was waiting for me when I went in (old school mechanic takes a real pride in his work kind of a guy  ). The salesman fully agreed with my point of view.

They let me know duing the day when the found the fault but asked me to keep the loan car overnight to give them time to finish the fix and check it properly.

They called me again in the evening to confirm that it was fixed but that they were going to keep it until lunchtime parked on different slopes just to be sure. The fault was a small kink in a small metal washer that was allowing oil to leak probably just when the car was parked on a slope (nose up) which explains why it was missed in the PDI.

Picked up the car today - seems ok but will check first thing in the morning. Specialist Cars also

  • are going to provide some drive cleaner fluid to help remove the oil stain from my drive
  • gave me the rubber car mats I'd mentioned being interested in for winter free of charge (they were waiting for me in my boot)

Generally a big  to them (as long as I dont find a puddle of oil under the car tomorrow :o ). As one workmate commented "I didn't know you could get service like that from a car dealer these days".

THE LETTER I SENT IN WITH THE CAR

I'd reccomend that any problem with a new car is put in politely writing along with what you expect (along with the milage which I handwrote on is I forgot to put in in the letter). That way if it goes really pear shaped you have a better chance of a claim suceeding.

The car appears to be leaking oil all over my driveway

THE LETTER I SENT IN WITH THE CAR

A good letter. I hope your problem gets sorted quickly.

It think it has been fixed - I just need to check tomorrow.

10/10 to the dealer though - they really seem to be going the extra mile to keep you happy. Let's hope this is the last of it and you can get on and enjoy the car now.
