Making keys

Featured Replies

Hi,

Does anyone know if it is easy/reasonable/even possible to get a key made to fit a vehicle that the doors are locked and that I have no key for?

Don't worry I'm not a car theif - its all in good intentions :p

If you have the documents, chassis number etc, and depending on age of the vehicle most makes dealers can make a key

Well that won't be strictly legal I'm sure unless they have given it to you, you can get in touch with the council and report it as a abandoned vehicle, they'll then sort out recovery and scrapping of it.

There is a proceedure with DVLA for a vehicle abandoned on private land to be transferred to you. You write to DVLA with the reg, they contact the previous owner and if they agree you get sent the V5.

I think you might have a problem scrapping it nowadays without the V5.

It's probably why it has sat there for the last 5 years or so as so far everyones been too scared to touch it!

It's tyres are flat, and its covered in green algae and surrounded by wooden pallets

Oh wow, thanks

We're renting a warehouse on the estate, so I shall contact the landlord.

Theoretically speaking, though, if this thing has sat there since a few years ago, when we know that the guy left it there when he handed back the unit, if he never 'officially' handed over the van (not likely) then surely if I were to go through this DVLA process, and possesion was handed over to me, then could I just take it?

But I suppose I would have to be the owner of the land to be able to do this, so I'd have to get permission from the landowner?

This has got me thinking now - I'm very intrigued (or perhaps I am just being silly here)

I wouldn't want to scrap the van, I'd want to get it back on the road for myself

LEGALLY THE LAND OWNER HAS FIRST GRABS, NOT YOU. HOWEVER IF THEY DON'T WANT IT...........

AS ABOVE.

SEE WHAT THE LANDLORD SAYS, AND THEN IF YOU'RE LUCKY GET IN TOUCH WITH DVLA AND START THE PROCEEDURE.

Err sure the old tenant hasn't been "sleeping" in the back of it for the last 5 years!
