Need a spare key made...

Featured Replies

Hi guys,

I need a spare key made for my Fabia VRS. It will need to open/close and drive the car...

I have been quoted £170+ by the stealers. I have looked into buying a blank from ebay and coding...

But for all that hassle and due to me having so little time available i am willing to pay something a bit better than £170.

Can anyone here point me in the direction of an outfit or person who could help? I am based in West Midlands.

Not true!

I bought and coded my own key!

You need the new remote key and blade with a blank immobiliser chip.

If you know your SKC code then I think the key can be coded with VCDS. If you don't know it then it will need to retrieved first from the dash clocks.

I have a place round the corner from me that has the specialist equipment to do it all and I think they charge about £100 for the lot.

Cost me about £50 to do mine myself.

Where can you get all this said equipment from?

If you have the SKC you can program a new key with VCDS.

If you don't have the SKC, you can recover it from the dash insert with a tool such as VAG-Tacho.

There are tools such as VAG Commander, which will do both.

Vag-tacho is what I used. Was able to retrieve my SKC and programme the key in with that.

You will need all the keys to hand that you want to work with the car including the new one. It took a bit of fiddling to get it to work fully as I programed the new key in which would start the car fine but was showing the key symbol on the dash.

All working now using a second hand remote off ebay, fitted in a new case, new immobiliser chip and key blade. Saved myelf a shed load!

I so want to buy vagtacho but @ 290 euros its not cheap and the only way it could be made good value for money is doing little key coding jobs for people here and there....

And retreiving SKC codes......... hmmmmmmm.

Always happy to help people out if they want it doing. My cable doesn't support CAN though so only the older stuff like the MK1 Fabia and my Cordoba.
