Bluetooth option for a car

Featured Replies

Hello

So after alot of to'ing and fro'ing and weighing up different toys I wanted etc, I have decided to go with an elegance spec. in the Octy 2

So because of this, if by default lacks bluetooth

So im looking now for a bluetooth solution thats tidy

in regard to bluetooth..................and by bluetooth, I just mean simple a way to pair your phone with the car and just hear the calls over the speakers and be heard via an indiscreet mic, im not on about seeing your phone book on the radio display or anything fancy, just simple bluetooth

Like in my current car, I get in , pair my phone with the car bluetooth and away I go, no other devices needed , just my mobile phone and thats it, make a call, just pick up my mobile, go to contacts on my phone ( not on another device ) and dial and it just goes over the speakers of my car, no other device needed

Anyone have any suggestions here ? or the make and model of a simple bluetooth solution for over the car speakers ???

As you have said, you are not in to fancy displays etc.

I would suggest a Parrot kit, small screen, discreet microphone and very easy to use.

Thanks. But to be honest I don't want any separate parrot screen at all, I already have me phone as an interface so don't really need a second parrot interface

How do you plan for the phone to interface with the cars speaker system without the aid of a 3rd party Bluetooth kit

I bought this car 2nd hand so presume the bluetooth must be internally inbulit somewhere

Would it not be possible to have a bluetooth device in built somewhere out of view ( without the need for a seperate interface device on show ) and just use my actual mobile phone as the interface to make and receive calls ??

Base spec Parrot has no screen, very discrete and RRP is around £70.

I have found that a Aldi Cig lighter kit is fulfilling my needs at £14.99 - all I need to do is mute the radio and the powered speaker that sits in the cig lighter is loud enough to hear by.

thanks Armegatron and would this simply work using my phone as the interface for making and receiving calls ?

And then the calls would go over the speakers ?

Phone is the interface for the aldi one, but does not go over the car speakers. Instead the sound comes through device in cig lighter, decent little speaker. Calls can be accepted through the cig lighter device on a small button, or on the phone itself. No wires or removal of radio required.

For the cheaper parrot, I think its the same but volume comes through the car radio. Obviously to do this the radio needs to be removed and wires ran to the small control device.

does it also go over the car speakers ??

No your car won't have Bluetooth. You will need a separate Bluetooth system. I have this installed in my works van and is excellent all rounder

I wanted the same as you, i.e a very simple and discreet bluetooth setup with no screen or visible controls. I went for the CK3000 kit and had the controls mounted behind the steering wheel so they weren't visible. As there is only two buttons and one knob it is easy to feel which one to use if you need them. The mic is positioned above the rear view mirror and very discrete.

You set the unit to pair with your phone automatically when the ignition is turned on.

The call can either be answered by pressing the green button on the control or your by picking up in the normal way with the phone. When answered the unit cuts out the stereo and puts the call over the speakers. The volume is controlled via the volume knob on the control unit but general it only needs setting once.

With my Blackberry pressing the green button activates the phone's voice control to let you dial by command which works pretty well.

I got the unit fitted by an autoelectrician who told me it's quite simple and it only took him around half an hour. Fitted cost was £160.

There is a easy and cheap way to get calls through the stereo, plug the phone ito the aux jack point in the arm rest and put the phone in a cradle around the dash area, problem solved. the sound from the phone will come through the speakers and the mic on the phone will pick you up.

Jaysus, this sounds like a right job and could well indeed be the solution

Have you or anyone else for that matter tried this ?

Any interference/feedback or anything with this setup ?

I have an OEM bluetooth kit for sale which is basicly the one you would get if you had the kit fitted as a n option, the whole unit, mic and wiring etc is invisible. I had it fitted in my previous octy and removed it when it went back to the dealer. my new octy has come with the bluetooth kit installed so i have no use for it. I'm looking for in the region of £250 for it. It's an amazing piece of kit, so clear your callers never know you are on handsfree. i'm away this week so PM me and i'll get back if you are interested.
