Is it normal that I can hear my fuel pump?

Featured Replies

Hi guys,

As most of you know by now, I traded in my Octi diesel for a 4x4 140 Yeti. On idle, I can hear a slight whirring noise from the back of the car (also audible from outside). It seems to be a bit louder with the seats removed. I believe it's the fuel pump, does anyone else have this, ie. is it normal? It's quiet enough that I only really hear it in the drive, not really audible when stood in traffic. I may be imagining it, but it also seems to get quieter as the car warms up....

I am guessing/hoping the Yeti just has a bit less sound deadening than the my Octi did, and have my fingers crossed that all of you diesel Yeti owners have "overheard" your fuel pump at one point or another.

Cheers!

Phil

I have a 1.2 and I can only hear the fuel pump when I turn the key.

I couldn't hear it on the 1.2 courtesy car I had, but I would guess the diesel pumps are a tad louder? Maybe it's not the fuel pump, let's see what diesel owners say.

It's only a slight whirring that can be heard inside and outside the car, I get the impression it's loudest around the sill area just in front of the rear wheel (driver's side).

I hear it very slightly when I have a less than a quarter tank of petrol and I'm getting ready to reverse out of my garage in the morning, it's always silent where I live, the noise is never there any other time/

I can't say as I've ever noticed it but I'll have a listen out for it on the way to work today and report back later.

In my green line i can hear my fuel sloshing about which is a lot noisier than the pump

I've had a listen and I can't hear the fuel pump even if i walk around the back of the car with the tailgate open.

Mmmmmm. Will ask when the car goes in AGAIN for the sixth time in three weeks on Monday to have the non-functioning seat-heating checked out. I can hear the fuel sloshing about as well, but it's the whirring that I'm interested in. :-/
