Help required re: VAG COM connection to Octy.

Featured Replies

Just tried to connect VAGCOM to my car for the first time.

Tested the com port and LED's OK from the "Options" section then tried to test the OBD-II. It tries to connect and says "incorrect synch byte: $5B"

I tried it both with ignition on and ignition off with no sucess.

Also, I assume these are the only 2 tests I need to do in order to enter the activation code? It says I must test on car before activating.

when they say test, they mean interrogate it for faults as you don't need an authorised version to do that.

If it does not work then I'd contact Ross-tech

I've just read that on the rosstech site actually (guess I should have looked there first).

Good old wireless broadband - on Briskoda while sat in the car!

OK. I ran a diag on the radio - easiest module I thought . It worked, returned no faults, said "DIAG" on the radio display.

VAGCOM now registered

However, whenever I try another module is says "cannot synch baud rate" or "no response from module" - I've tried loads of modules, including those I though would be simple (Central locking)

What baud settings do I need for an Octy?

I'd get in contact with Ross Tech as I've never had that problem with mine. Doe you VAG-COM plug have a switch on it?

Just tried changing the protocol settings to some that are on the ross tech website. Laptop battery is flat now though so cant do anything for a couple of hours.
