I bought these a couple of weeks ago but for some reason when coded my car wouldn't communicate with them :( , Not sure why.

Part number : 1Z0 920 942D (non vRS clocks)

Interested, but...

Your signature says that you have a PD 140 estate (same as mine, but I have Ambiente spec) but you can't get the clocks to code with your vehicle!

Could you explain please.

Also (and I'm guessing here) that there is more than a straight swap (I know how to physically do this) and recode with VCDS required! If so, is it a dealer job (to code) or can an independent do it?

I shall be half way to having all the trim off in a week or two anyway to get to the fuseboard / CAN gateway, so I could be doing this at the same time.

Any advice on the coding issues would be much appreciated prior to committal to buy.

Mike: Don't be depressed as you know nearly everything about VCDS... Were you planning on coding it yourself?

Finally, does it give you the white Maxi Dot display when fitted? Like this:

Now I'm depressed.

I would have had these off you, but have just bought a new unit from Skodateile last week. It arrived on Friday............... It's the exact one that I needed too.

Never mind -- good luck with the sale.

Mike

Sorry Mike, I had found these a couple of days prior to seeing your post about buying some new clocks. Hopefully you will have more luck than me.

Hi,

The clocks were coded for my car but there is an issue with my car that isn't allowing all the functions to talk to the clocks.

I know the Classic requires you to fit a new wiper stalk & controller to give you the ability to move between the menus on the maxidot, If your car currently have the 2 trip menu's then you won't require the extras.

Yes, the coding is a little more than using VCD's. I had Shark Performance try to fit the clocks & they were left coded for my car so will need erasing prior to coding. A Main dealer should be able todo the coding following the Clock swap Process but I'm not sure if they will have the knowledge to erase the clocks, I can't comment on any other VAG specialists having the knowledge either as I never researched it as Shark are only 45min drive for me

Yes, the picture you added is exactly what the clocks looked like when plugged into my car

That's one thing I hadn't thought about - but mine does have two trip computers, so I'm OK on that.

Another bonus.

I've read on this forum (can't find the posts now) that it is only possible to code previously uncoded units to a car. Once it has been coded (the mileage, I believe), it cannot be reset again for another vehicle. Am I likely to have problems due to this issue? Did Shark give you any advice about selling it on?

I've just emailed Shark to see what he says about coding this to my vehicle. Fingers crossed.

Sorry for the delayed reply, I rarely come on Briskoda on my days off.

Shark are able to alter the milage on used Clusters, however they can't alter the final digit therefore your car may gain/loose 9miles. There might be other companies out there that are able to re-code used clusters but as Shark are my local specialists I didn't research fitting any further.
