Advice on Spring - Broken?

Featured Replies

Left home for work one morning this week and got a loud twanging from the front end when turning, so headed back at the end of the road to jump into my other car. While doing so, sounded like something dropped off and rattled down away from the car (like when you run over a large stone in the road).

I think the front off-side spring has gone at the top, but would appreciate someone confirming by taking a look at the pics I took when I jacked the car up this morning. Also the top mount on that side seems to be flush with the body work.

My plan is to buy some H&R 20mm springs and new top mounts/bearings & get my friendly local Volvo indy to fit.

Let me know what you think - has the spring gone?

yes spring has broke

replacement options opens a can of worms though!

thanks for the confirmation.

Yes - been looking through the options - Weitecs and the like, just not sure I can justify the price...

£175 for springs plus labour costs seems a bit more palatable to me.....

or just get a replacement vrs spring... (no other octy springs fit right)

yep - but if I get two front OEM springs I think that puts me into H&R territory anyway in terms of cost

yes it will, but then you really should upgrade dampers for lowered springs, which then would cost more than the weitecs, see what i mean about a dilema!

grrr - yeah I know :)

I was hoping about getting away with using the H&R's on my old dampers.

Now I'm starting to think about the Weitecs again.

you will get a cr*p ride if you do that! shocks and springs should be matched, if you want comfort, get shocks and springs, if you want handling, get the weitecs, or aps or kws, depending on what you can afford.

thanks for the feedback guys - I think I'll stick with the stock route then and source 2 new OEM springs.

Where do you fellas go? dealer? TPS?

tbh, and i know they are meant to be replaced in pairs, but i'd just get one replacement used spring from someone on here breaking a vrs - anything else other than weitecs doesn't make financial sense
