P0473 Exhaust Pressure Sensor 1 - Signal too High. Advice Please!

Featured Replies

Hello All,

Although I have a Seat, I thought I'd ask here as I get more sense here than other places and it's same car practically.

Thanks to Mr Simbo this morning, he scanned the car for as I have the emission light on.The fault has chucked up the above error code and issue. Now I have done my research, I know what it is, what part I require to replace it but I have the following questions.

  1. What will happen if I carry on using the car with this light on? I have quite a few big journeys to cover within the next 1-2 weeks and trying to get my warranty to sort it, but it's RAC warranty so it's not the easiest ones to work with it.
  2. Is the sensor easy to replace myself if warranty doesn't cover it? Does anyone have any guides/advice or pictures to help?

Would really appreciate your help.

Thanks,

Luke

The sensor is easy to replace however once fitted it must be adapted or the fault will remain or come back. There are on some cars and ECU update to go with the sensor depending on age etc. As for driving it with the light on the simple answer is no. The system can't regen whilst that fault is on so the saturation will continue to rise. Once this gets to 90% the DPF is scrap and will have to be replaced.

Thanks mate, I was hoping you would reply as I know you understand your stuff.

So if I fitted it myself, it wouldn't be just a simple switch off with the VAGCOM? I could use the local Skoda dealer as I am very friendly with them. Sounds like an expensive fix?

You can adapt it via VCDS yes, the channel I believe is on the ross tech site I don't know it off the top of my head but there was a thread on it in the Superb II section a few weeks back which detailed it iirc.

A Skoda dealer could do it for you, I have done a Leon at work however they won't be able to check for any software updates, only a dealer can do that.

Ok thanks mate, so you wouldn't advise like going to the shops in the car? As obviously stuck in town makes it worse. Done around 60 miles since light came on too, but wanted to confirm if it was correct that I shouldn't be driving it.

What is the cost of it doing at like your garage for instance? I have been quoted £54 for the part! I can't see my warranty covering it and if they did, the garage I got if from was a Mazda garage so they won't have the correct tools!

If you have an RAC warranty it doesn't have to go back to the selling dealer. You can take it to a Skoda dealer and they can claim from your warranty. They may ask you to pay for it and then claim it back but I don't see why it shouldn't be covered.

As for cost, can't imagine any more than an hours labour tops which at our place would be £69 plus VAT I think.

Thanks buddy, I'll speak with RAC.

I have had to do that before with the warranty when the ABS sensor went, so hopefully they'll do this too. I don't think RAC will pay for the diagnostics however....

No you don't need to carry out a regeneration, just adapt g450

Ah ok :)

How vital is the software update?

Think this is what your after:

[select]

[01 - Engine]

[Coding-II - 11]

  • Start Exhaust Pressure Sensor (G450) Adaptation 30605..

[Do It!]

Thanks mate, I am very tempted to sort it myself for speed/quickness but I am wanting to know the issue if I don't update the software?

Hi,

for the Octy the update was a recall 24K5, which I belive was a new sensor (G450) and the ECU was updated with new software to cope with the sensor different response and a slightly different engine map. Best to check for the recall sticker in the boot (next to the spare wheel) near the car options codes.

Had mine replaces a few weeks back and all is good, just make sure u get the newer sensor.

How will I know about the sticker? Sorry I am but of a novice when it comes to this.

Lift up the boot carpet, it should be stuck to the floor next tot he data sticker.

However as far as I know it wasn't a recall on SEAT but they did have bulletins on it when I was there. You need to call a dealer to check If there is an outstanding recall.

Just swapped my sensor about a week ago to our `08 Scout, The new sensor that I got had an extra screw loop on the top that I didn`t need but otherwise was identical to the old one. Was a bit weary to order one from eBay but since it would have cost 250eur to get from a dealership here and only 40eur to order it from the UK I did, and was happily surprised to receive a Bosch sensor. I did not take it anywhere to be adapted, all I did was swapped the sensor and gave it a bootfull and the light went out and has not returned.
