Can't fit New headlight! - Why

Featured Replies

Hello fellow Fabia-heads.

I have a 59 plate Fabia ii H.T.P 1.2

The other day my front passenger side headlight blew. I popped into a Motorsports shop this morning (with the old bulb - an H7), and purchased a new bulb.

It won't fit properly! I tried another shop and the same problem there.

So, is it a non-standard H7 bulb that my Fabia takes?

Anybody know?

How does the new bulb compare with the old one?

An H7 lamp should be made to a spec, so all H7 bulbs will fit. I do know a friend who tried to fit led's H1's and the glass part was too fat to fit into the aperature.

How does the new lamp vary from the old lamp that you took out?

have a 08 plate 12 htp changed both my blubs no problem

have you got the lug part sitting correctly ? try disconnecting the bulb and turning it 180 degrees and then re connect

Aren't they H4's in the lower models?

There's 4 metal protrusions on the base of the neck of the new bulb - these aren't on the old H7's that i took out of the car.

These appear to prevent the bulb from sliding far enough into the bulb holder.

Have you bought a standard H7 halogen bulb with a PX26d cap?

Have you bought a standard H7 halogen bulb with a PX26d cap?

Sorry, can you tell me what a "PX26d cap" is please?

I got the new bulbs from a motor spares shop, i let the assistant take a look at the old bulb and he got new bulbs that were supposed to match. All the writing on the box matches the writing on the old bulb, so i don't really know why they don't fit.

PX26d is the size and design of the cap or the metal base that fits into the holder, these should be standard on an H7 bulb.

There's four metal protrusions on the new bulb (at the base of the neck) which seem to be stopping it fitting.

This is a H7 (499) PX26d these fit mine

Thanks everyone.

In the end had to go to the main dealer and buy some other H7 bulbs.

On comparing the VW approved bulbs, and the third party bulbs, the man at the dealers said he hadn't seen any H7's with the protrusions before - so watch out for your next bulbs!
