Exhaust Gas Control System Light

Featured Replies

Well after 5 years and 36,000 miles I've finally got the first serious-ish fault on the Octy.

Went into town to do some shopping this morning and all was fine, came home and parked up for half an hour then went out again to Sainsbury's. Set off fine but a few hundred yards from home going downhill went onto the over-run and the fault light for the exhaust gas control system came on!

The car is a March 2007 4x4 2.0TDi PD140 with a BMM engine and DPF but the DPF warning light didn't come on beforehand.

I'm therefore not too concerned and am assuming it is likely to be a pressure sensor that has gone and needs replacing and adapting. I'm not intending to drive it too far until I can get it sorted so It'll therefore unfortunately be sat on the drive for a few days (luckily we also have the Fabia and the Mazda!)

However, my local VAG Independant is about 5 miles away and if they can't do it Shark are 20 miles away - any idea if I'm OK with those sort of distances - presumably yes taking it steady...

If not could it be done by someone with VCDS?

I have same issue mate and done around 60 miles since it came on.

Yes spoke to Simeon, you probs won`t be coming to the meet now ?

No Alan unfortunately, I have parked the car up until Tuesday when it's in at the garage.

Need alternative transport for work now.

Thought you had a bike, if I can do 25 miles a day ( new job) so can you

Haha I do, but I also have to take the little one to school every day!

Unlucky! - took it to the local specialist today and he scanned it - three fault codes (two sensors plus DPF) but he can't remember what they are and doesn't sound overly convinced that he'll be able to sort it for at least a week or so.

So called Shark and had a chat and will hopefully be heading over there tomorrow...

When my exhaust light only came on it was the exhaust temp sensor that had gone. Made no difference what so ever to how the car drove.

This very same light has appeard on my dash too. I also belived that it's the 'Exhaust Temp sensor' as I'm still able to drive it like normal. Anyone know the rough cost to get this fixed?
