A question on locking / double locking?

Featured Replies

Hello all,

My MkI VRS, in addition to the standard car security, has a Cobra 8800 alarm fitted.

Since buying the car I have found that pressing the lock button once results in no chimes/indicator flashes, although the locks can be heard to activate.

As such i have gotten into the habit of pressing the lock button twice in quick succession which, (most of the time anyways) results in the indicators flashing and an audible "beep" sounding three times.

I took these chimes/indicator flashes to mean that the car had double locked and the alarm had activated.

Using this method I have always had issues where I also had to "double unlock" when returning to the car, as if i only press unlock once about 60%-70% of the time when I go to opened any of the doors, or open and then close the bootlid, the car alarm goes off - which makes you jump at 5:30am!

As such, I've gone on this way thinking that y double clicking the keyfob i was "double locking" and setting the alarm (afterall I was getting the audio/visual indicators that way), However i was flicking through the manual the other day and it says that double locking will actually DEACTIVATE the internal alarm sensor?!

As such, i was wondering if anyone more knowledgeable than me could tell me what i need to do to make sure the car is double locked and fully alarmed when i walk away from it

Cheers!

Octys normally make no noise (apart from the locks) when being locked, so I would suggest starting by researching your Cobra 8800 alarm to see what the manual says for that...

I thought one press was double locking and a second press for single?

In fact I'm positive the manual said that pressing it twice turned off the interior sensors for the alarm if fitted and that it switched off the dead locks incase anyone was left in the car

Well the manual was pretty useless, very hard to understand, think it may have been translated to English from Swedish via Babelfish and then written out by Yoda :o.

In the end, much to the puzzlement of the neighbours, i spent a little while this afternoon sat in the car, locking myself in and trying to trigger the alarm.

In the end i did indeed discover that "One Click" of the lock button locks the doors, sets the alarm and after 40secs activated the interior sensors.

"double Click" locks the door and sets the alarm on the doors etc however deactivates the interior sensors.

I can only think the car gives an audible warning when "Double Clicking" to warn you of the fact you have deactivated part of the alarm

Cheers all

Don't you just love the things manufacturers write just to confuse you lol

Mine doesn't give any audible noises no matter WHAT I do with my keyfob.

Which at a guess means you haven't got an alarm fitted lol

I did notice that the indicators do flash on a single click lock, just the audible "beep, beep, beep" is missing

You can't be doing it right with the keyfob..... oooooerrrrr misses

Chances are you don't have an alarm fitted (they were not factory fitted as standard)

If you have an alarm fitted you can get it to beep the horn on lock and unlock using vag com
