'Fixing' up my Fabia Estate

Featured Replies

Hi all,

There's nothing that's broken in-particular, I'm just wanting to fix a few things up and would like a little advice on a few subjects :)

1. It would appear my door carriers are leaking :rain::giggle: . I've ordered some Shell Tixophalte sealant as recommended in another thread, all I need now is some spare door card clips. Could anybody tell me if these are the correct ones? http://www.ebay.in/itm/GENUINE-SKODA-DOOR-TRIM-CLIPS-5J0867276-X-10-FREE-P-P-/320833471033#ht_1441wt_1250 That's a bag of 10, how many would I need?

2. As I've just bought the Fabia, I don't have any spare engine oil yet. It's a Fabia Estate 1.9TDI PD 2006. I'm looking for a really good oil suitable for 10,000 mile changes. Any suggestions as I've read the PD engines need very specific oils? I've looked on Opie oils, but I don't trust their auto selector as I couldn't read the codes on the oils they'd suggested.

3. I'm looking at removing the stock H/U (Symphony thing) as it's a bit rubbish tbh and a pain to use. Am I right in thinking this is the correct harness to install an aftermarket H/U? http://caraudiosecurity.com/shop/product/products_id/8870.html

I'll be looking to install a single DIN H/U and I have the Elegance pop out tray below the current H/U, if I use this http://caraudiosecurity.com/shop/product/products_id/7878.html fascia adapter, does anybody know if it will foul the tray in any way?

I probably have a whole heap of other questions, but there the ones on my mind so far :bandit:

Any answers are appreciated

Only bit I can help you on is the radio....seem to remember someone posting this before:

http://www.amazon.co.uk/STEREO-FITTING-FASCIA-ADAPTOR-REMOVAL/dp/B003JIG0OA/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1331056589&sr=8-2

Has all the bits you need. I got the same lot of ebay for £15...oops forgot about Amazon! Same kit & it comes with the Autoleads fascia surround.

Apparently the official Skoda fascia surround is only about £3 from a dealer and is a better fit. Must admit the Autoleads one is a bit loose so will probably be changing mine.

Hope this helps.

Have a look here for all the information you'll ever need about oil for your PD engine :)

Best get the proper fascia adapter from Skoda, it's only £3 or so and fits perfectly.

I used the correct sealing kit from Skoda to do the doors, just ordered a kit to do another members car on Saturday, enough to do two cars in the kit and they don't leak afterwards like his car is now as its not been done properly and still allows you to get the carrier off if you need to.

Don't usually need a harness adaptor for an aftermarket radio

in a Fabia. I've fitted a few now and never needed one.

At worst you'll need to switch the red and yellow wires (like many VAG cars)

around on the replacement stereos own wiring, theres usually a couple of

bullet connectors already there to make this convenient and easy.

Why are you using Indian eBay? Here's the UK link - http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/320833471033

They're fine - and cheaper than Skoda now they've put the price up from 30p each to 60p each. However it depends how many you need - might be cheaper to buy the right quantity at a dealer. The rear doors on a saloon - and I presume the estate is the same - needs 7 per door, and when I did one door recently I only needed to buy six...

Interesting, I'll leave it till I get my new H/U and have a test install. Thanks, saved me some money :whew:

Your avatar looks like the same guy that recommended the Shell sealant too, if it was you, thanks for that too :)

Interesting. I'll go for the Skoda OEM adapter then if it's better quality and cheaper too. Shame really as that pack of goodies is what I needed. Anybody got the part number for the adapter as I don't have a dealer close to me. Is this the part? http://www.skodaparts.com/product/fabia-radio-facia-trim-36675

Guilty as charged :D

My carpets are still dry after over 12 months so far but I have a few tubes stashed

away should it need re-doing. It can be scraped off and then cleaned away with white spirit

and plaenty of rags if it should need re applying. Don't be afraid to really wallop it on in the first

instance though. I did two doors with a third of a tube, so a full tube should do the lot easily.

needs re-doing.

For info the genuine sealing kit.

Now I'm not saying nothing else will do, just being in a dealer we have to use the approved parts by the approved method and warranty my work so I use the proper stuff.

As stated don't buy the ISO adapter, it's a waste of money (they're £2.50 delivered from ebay) and takes up space that's limited enough as it is, the radio keys are best avoided as they don't work either (if you want keys use Kenwood ones or two .5mm thick strips of aluminium works wonder - pikey removal FTW!), I wasn't aware of the OE fascia adapter but then again I paid £2.50 (again from ebay) for my Autoleads version and it's OK. You may need the amplifier (another £2.50 from ebay) or a bullet connector to fit certain after market HU's. Either way the Amazon kit is still more expensive than buying the items by themselves though a lot cheaper than Halfrauds etc.

Oil wise it's as per the handbook, 505.01 for standard service intervals (10k or 12 months) but 507.00 is the long life version used in the rest of the range with the same engine where VTS is an option, it's more expensive but but some people prefer it for peace of mind.

Would I be right in saying that spec 507 oil would be the best oil for 10,000 mile intervals, but a bit overkill?

Spot on :) 505.01 is designed, certified and approved by Skoda for 10k/1 year intervals in your car, the same engine is used on other cars in the VAG range that offer variable time servicing and 507 spec oil is used, that oil is rated up to 18k/2 years depending on how the car is driven (lots of low rev running on motorways = 18k, a lot of start/stop driving, short journeys and high revs = a lot less). The Fabia lacks to ability to monitor the variables involved so it can't be put on VTS but some people prefer to use the oil. You'd probably be better off using the 505.01 spec and changing it more often in reality as 507 costs a bit more.

We put Shell Helix in our 1.4MPi, ok it's not a diesel but their website is pretty handy in helping you choose the right oil

http://lubematch.she...age=5&brand=109

Checkout Eurocarparts ebay shop, was pretty cheap @ £16 for5 litres and delivered the next day...1 x 5 litre can in a bl00dy big box

It would of been cheaper on ourwebsite using the BriSkoda Discount Code :)
