Can't turn headlights off

Featured Replies

Got my new 05 plate Octavia TDI today it has the Light Assist option.

With key in the ignition, what ever position the headlight control is on (except for side lights) the dipped beam is on, even in the off position !!!!!

Am i doing something wrong or is it a fault.

Nope its a feature.

However you can disable it via the Menu System on the Speedo Display. Press and hold button on side of right stork to access the Menu and it's in there somewhere.

Have you got the light assistance package? If so is there a button below the radio that switches it on or off?

Is there  where

Offski to have a look................

Not on mine there isn't can set it via the MaxiDot Meu System to have the Headlights come on when you open or close the doors from the keyfob though.

Oh right. it's just a pic in the brochure that made me think that.

on the cars i've seen the light control has 4 positions, auto - off - side - main

not seen the octavia one though

All the light functions including the time that the welcome home lights stay on can be set by your dealer with diag equipment. Daytime running lights can be deactivated in the same way by recoding the 09 ECU. And as far as I know you cannot use VAG COM to do this as its done by hexdecimal coding.

Thanks for the advice Steviec but there is not a setting for "ordiary" lights, however, your advice was useful as i have altered the "coming home" value from 80 seconds to 30 seconds. much better

I aslo tried disabling all the "coming home" features but it did not work :(

I will pop it to the dealers soon and see what they can do

Thanks for all your advice though guys.

Heres the answer

Apparently this "feature" should have been picked up during its inspection at the garage. It is called "daylight lights" and it can be turned on and off by a dealer.

Apparently there are lots of other features which are not turned on by default. such as the doors locking once you get to 10 miles per hour (like the new mini, and many Merc's). This is a definate feature on the Fabia or so i have been told

I intend to get a list of all the available dealer enabable features. If i do i will post them.

Anti Hijack - Very useful feature, SWMBO hates it ( she is very rarely in my car - has her own ), so am leaving it on.

Does your car beep when you lock / unlock, this feature can also be switched on / off, depending on what the current state is.

aaagghhhhh

I can turn the headlights off but now the light assist does not work aaagghhhh. even the menu options for "Coming Home" have disapeared from the maxi dot menu

back to the garage tomorrow morning

They have coded the ECU incorrectly then, disabling to much.

They need to read the info on the screen in guided functions better.

I have seen the screen they use and i must admit that it is very un-user friendly, there are no prompts and no info.

The lights now stay on for several seconds when i lock the car, but not when i unlock the car (menu option also missing), also the lights are still on constantly when in light assist even during bright daylight.

For those of you interested the code used is 10000001. If there is anyone out there who might be able to tell me why this is wrong i would be truley greatfull.

The garage have been brilliant though, very helpfull, but so far it has taken 5 hours to get to this stage. they have been on the phone to Skoda technical but becasue they can not see the car it seems difficult for them to diagnose.

Is there anyone here who can help !!!!!! im getting frustrated now
