sunroof alignment - I got wet this morning

Featured Replies

Having driven round with the sunroof open for most of the weekend, I got in the car this morning, drove to the end of the road then got a load of water down my neck.

Having looked at it, it seems the sunroof panel is mis aligned in the hole. Its the same effect you'd get by trying to rotate the glass panel in the roof hole, the result is that the seal isnt fat enough to fill the gap at one point.

I've had the car since October but never had the sunroof open until the weekend. Wish I'd kept it shut now!

Bearing in mind the lack of Haynes manuals - does anyone know if the roof assembly is shared with the Golf ?

I had a problem many years ago with a manual sunroof on a VW which dropped on one corner. Due to the local dealership being on strike (this was in Malta) I had to sort the problem out myself, and without the benefit of a manual. I managed to get the height adjustment right on the corner but didn't set the cable mechanism correctly and ended up with a sunroof which would only 3/4 close. I eventually got it all back together correctly - but will NEVER attempt to fix a sunroof myself again.

I'm guessing, but I would imagine that O)ctavia and Golf parts come from the same parts bin. Even if there are subtle differences, the mechanisms and method used should be the same. Let us know how you get on - and make sure that you either do the job during a long dry spell and/or in a garage.

I'm not to sure exactly what your saying your sunroof is doing but mine didn't aline to well on tilt a while back and when "closed" it sat a little low.

What i done was... realine it manually (pull of plastic cover where sunroof switch is and use little handle hidden in there). The once i had it alined it done the "convinience" trick on the door with the key (Held it in locked position for 20 seconds) and apparently it resets all "up" positions on windows nd roof.

Hope this is of use.... would suggest only doing this if you have cover for your car or no sign of rain incase all goes wrong!

Viewed as if you're stood on top of the car, here's the problem:
